are HB MWs illegal in NE? thankfully here in VA they're licensed by the state, I can't imagine my DH and mom would have gotten on board otherwise! lol.

Yes it's illegal for a midwife to attend a homebirth here. Unassissted are legal, but otherwise, no midwives. Like unassisted are safer.....grrr. There are some "underground" options, but very limited.

crazy! clearly something needs to be done about this. i'm sure there are people working on that in your state - for some women HB is just the safer option. i wouldn't feel comfortable UCing due to my previous c/s and if i lived there i'd really feel stuck between a rock and a hard place. how awful.

Ya... it's crazy. It's actually technically illegal just for the mw but it's perfectly legal to have your baby at home. I guess the mw's get licences and certifications in other states to get around it. There are *very* limited options as they can do jail time if they are caught.

Not to make light, but I couldn't help but picture a raid on a hb to haul away the MW... scary, but funny to imagine a swat team bustin' down the door.

WOW... I can't believe mw hb is illegal. That is just dumb, whoever made that law must have stock in hospitals. I, personally, can not do a hb because of complications and we are doing c/s again.
