2 yr old retracted his foreskin! *UPDATED*

So my DS turned 2 in September and PL'd right after. We still do naked time at home, often, since he is short and has a hard time getting cloths off THEN onto potty before peeing. Anyways, he is always a little "rough" with himself, but what do I know?? He seemed to be pulling alot of his foreskin (down the shaft) and I would wince, thinking the skin would give way and tear. But I know kids retract it on their own right... Well, he did it. 3 days ago, he put so much pressure on the tiny opening, it broke. tore of all 4 sides. He is still complaining about it hurting (although he is peeing with no problems) but as of today, there is whiteness around his foreskin, where the tears are! I made an appointment tomorrow to make sure he is okay. I just can't imagine WHAT they would do? Give him ointment? Will I need ointment everytime he does this? Cause he WILL do this again. Any one experience this?

UPDATE:

So it seems an intact penis isn't as simple to care for as everyone says. LOL. Not saying we regret the choice, but seriously, I never thought we would go thru this. DS's "wink" as we call it, got VERY irritated after he "split" it open. He would still pee, but tell me it hurt. I took him to the doctor, JUST in case and nope, the white stuff around the tip, was infection, not skin regrowth. He is on antibiotics now and tough ones, since its his boy area. He has to have sitz baths and cream. All because he is ROUGH with his junk. He also has a Tiny opening. The tip doesn't balloon, but you can't see the head of the penis at all, even pulled tight. Luckily he is a champ (if this was DS#1, OH MY LORD. He gets a tiny scratch and he acts like he lost a limb) and he doesn't complain much, just when he touches it.

Anyways, I just wanted to update to show that it can need a bit more care than a circumsized, in a case like this.. Which obviously wouldn't happen to a child without foreskin...

wow. poor baby. i have no advice, but i'm watching the responses here cause my ds is forever playing with his little "thingy" too and i have been worried about him doing exactly what your son did for awhile now. i've been consoling myself by saying that he would stop if it hurt, but apparently not always! i hope he feels better!

I would put vasaline on it. or neosporin. thats all you can do it keep it lubricated so it heals well and doesn't sting.

I say vaseline, it will keep the skin moistened while it heals and stops hurting. I would be afraid that Neosprin would attempt to close broken skin, kinda like with a cut? JMO

Good luck!

Re: 2 yr old retracted his foreskin!

Is your pediatrician intact-friendly? I would be very very very wary about taking a LO in for something like this - I would worry that the doc would do more harm than good in pushing the foreskin around trying to look at it. Can you wait a few days to see how it looks because it might heal up nicely and easily on its own. That kind of membrane area often heals quickly, I would give it lots of diaper-free air time. I'm surprised that your DS would be able to hurt himself, though, typically little boys stop when they start to feel pain in that area. In any event, personally I would wait a few days before taking him in, and if you want to use some cream, use something natural like CJ's Butter, EarthMamaAngelBaby, California Baby, etc.

eta - the "whiteness" is probably part of the healing process and I wouldn't touch it or wipe it away

I'd either leave it alone at let it heal, or if you feel you must put something on it I'd suggest using calendula ointment. Most have a petroleum base so it will help keep it most and lubricated while encouraging natural healing.

He is potty trained and we waited 3 days before taking him in. No touching. It was infected. It had split, intensly.
