Milk ideas for a one year?
I took my one year old off of formula about 2 months ago. He refuses to drink anything cold so I have been warming up cows milk for him before bed. I hate cows milk and everything about it. We used to use soy but then learned all the negatives so we switched to coconut milk for any cooking. But from everything I read warming it up will make it go bad?? Does anyone know if this is true and if so what would you turn to?

Re: Milk ideas for a one year?
Any particular reason you're stuck on giving him milk? The reason that cow's milk is pushed is for the calcium. If he is getting enough calcium from other sources then it doesn't really matter.

Re: Milk ideas for a one year?
Perhaps almond milk would work baring your son having tree nut allergies? I'm not sure though and this is more to bump your thread so others with more knowledge will see it.

Re: Milk ideas for a one year?
We use coconut milk in cooking as well because we have to be dairy-free. I warm it up all the time in my tea, mashed potatoes, cream soups, etc. Never goes bad for me. Just don't cook it on too high of heat. We use So Delicious unsweetened.
Otherwise I second the other posters comment. There's no real NEED to do a milk substitute if you child is getting enough healthy food throughout the day. If it's simply because your child still wants a bottle of milk though, I would stick with some gently warmed coconut milk.

Re: Milk ideas for a one year?
I agree with the almond and coconut milks. And also agree with you don't NEED to give him any kinda of milk.

Re: Milk ideas for a one year?
Does he need it warm or would room-temperature do? Room temp. coconut milk has never gone bad for me.

Re: Milk ideas for a one year?
My kids love oat milk. I buy the fortified version because I am paranoid about them getting the vit they need, but you can make it yourself really easily.

Re: Milk ideas for a one year?
I soo second Hemp milk... it is SOO much better then a lot of other options out there..
http://www.buzzle.com/articles/hemp-milk-nutrition.html My DD drinks it at room temp all the time.. She really doesn't care if it is cold or not.. BUT will actually start drinking it - and then put it down to play and that - and comes back to it...
