Re: Play date etiquette

My kids...all 3 of them (3,2,1yr. olds) are responsible for picking up EVERYTHING they messed up. So if all the kids equally played and destroyed someones living room, they all must clean up until the room is the way it was before we arrived. if I notice that the familys own child is not helping (although they helped mess) then I will relieve my kids of doing it after I think each has picked up their share, and I will pick up the remaining things. If the host says don't worry about it...I will do it quickly but make sure it is still clean.

As for my house, I DO EXPECT any kids coming over to clean up what they mess up. It's a general rule at our house. Boys put their dishes in the sink after each meal, ask to be excused, put cup up, push in their chair...ect. When we have other kids over, I will announce it's clean up time and will tell all the children they need to clean up what they messed up. If they are there for mealtime, I will ask them to bring me their plate and cup and push in their chair.

Re: Play date etiquette

I do encourage my kids to help clean up toys they were playing with at a friend's house, and don't worry too much about other people coming here since our boys destroy the play room on a regular basis anyway.
