Giving medicine when baby refuses?
Our 9 mo DD needs to take 1tsp of Benadryl every 6 hours for an allergic reaction, but she just discovered that she can refuse to take it. She turns away, shuts her mouth, screams like a banshee, spits out or even throws up what we can manage to get in her mouth. We tried a dropper, syringe, even a bottle and she's adamant. She doesn't like pacifiers, so the paci dropper doesn't work either. How can we get her to take it?

Re: Giving medicine when baby refuses?
I havent tried it yet with my LO but if you can manage to get it into their mouth...blow lightly onto their face. I was told this by another mama. Hope it works for you.

Re: Giving medicine when baby refuses?
We use a dropper and then clamp her lips shut for a few seconds. Good luck!

Re: Giving medicine when baby refuses?
Try putting it in the back of her mouth where her cheek and gums meet. Just do very little at a time. Even if it take five minutes to do it. This is what works for us.

The best one so far has been blowing in her face, thanks! She still hates it, but at least most of it is getting in.
Anyone know of a chewable for infants? She just needs Iron and Vit D. Or some liquid other than Tri-Vi-Sol that doesn't taste as nasty?

Oh you are welcome. I am glad it worked for you. I recently tried it on the little guy and it worked.

Re: Giving medicine when baby refuses?
If your babe takes solids you could put the medecine in applesauce or pudding...
I can usually get DS to take things if I squirt it between his gum and cheek and then nurse him. He gets so distracted by boobs that he forgets to get mad and not swallow ![]() I take Floradix as an iron suplement myself. It's a liquid and it doesn't taste too bad. Sort of like prune juice. It has some B vits too, is nonconstipating and is an easily absorbed form of iron. You could check with your pedi if it would be ok for your LO. Not sure about the vitamin D though...
