Re: VBAC=Induction? WWYD?

hmmmm...that sounds really odd. My OB said that if I want to do a VBAC that induction isn't even an option since it drastically increases your chances of rupture. And since 40% of babies die when ruptures occur...that's just too risky.

Re: VBAC=Induction? WWYD?

I was in a VBAC situation and induction wasn't even discussed....different states I guess. I would just insist that I did NOT want to be induced NO pitocin, etc. You are in control and you are an informed mom to be (again). Good luck and I hope it works out for you.

Re: VBAC=Induction? WWYD?

My ob wanted to induce me for my vbac. I put off scheduling anything, telling them I wanted to wait a bit. Fortunately, dd decided to arrive a week early we never got around to them scheduling it. But everything I read in preparation for my vbac was against induction.

Do what you feel is right.

Re: VBAC=Induction? WWYD?

Do 40% of babies really die with rupture?

I wouldn't get induced with a VBAC.

Re: VBAC=Induction? WWYD?

Wow OP! I could have written that story!

My daughter came into this world very much the same way!

I'm also going for a VBAC but they haven't discussed inducing me or anything. I'd totally refuse if they did!

Good luck mama!

Re: VBAC=Induction? WWYD?

according to this study http://givingbirthwithconfidence.org...o-perspective/
only 6-8% of babies die with uterine rupture, but you would loose your uterus and it would prevent any further babies. I would refuse an induction but i would allow a SMALL dose of pit if things aren't moving along.
I saw lots of VBACS when i worked L&D but none were induced, and the way they do the c/s now its very safe to vbac

Re: VBAC=Induction? WWYD?

Thanks Stephanie...I started looking it up and saw that the 40% is really inaccurate.

Re: VBAC=Induction? WWYD?

The book "thinking woman's guide to a better birth" had a lot of info on this topic. I've already returned my copy or I would look it up for you. She also has a lot of references in there (i.e. 1/3 of the book is references to scientific studies, etc). Basically I believe she said that although using pitocin on a VBAC uterus raises the risk of rupture, it is still less risky than doing a repeat c-section.

However it really sounds like your providers are not very supportive of VBAC, despite saying that they are. They are kind of setting you up to fail at your vaginal birth plans with all the restrictions they are putting on you (and I'm guessing there are more that you haven't even heard of re: how fast you have to progress, etc). Just keep in mind that it's your body, you're the boss, and stand your ground. Personally I'd labour at home for a long time to avoid the cascade of interventions. Good luck mama!

Re: VBAC=Induction? WWYD?

I did an induced VBAC with pitocin in 05 and would never ever suggest it to anyone else.
My contrations were off the charts because they used the max. dosage of pitocin.
I thought my uterus was going to split open at anytime.
I was seen at a Military hospital and they would only consent to the VBAC if I was induced a week before my due date, thewy were afraid DD would be too big,she only weighed 7lbs 3oz though.
