Re: s/o: can this be corrected????

you should be able to get him speech therapy at a public school for free. My 3 1/2 yr old has been getting speech therapy through our insurance because he was in the infant program ( since he started at age 2 ) and that was all 1 on 1 therapy. When he turned 3, we went through the school district to get an IEP and they got him into school no problem. No insurance involved. Once a child is in therapy and has an IEP, they cannot be turned down. We went through the special education dept of the local school to get him in. Then after he had an eval with the local school and developed a new IEP, I chose what school I wanted him to go through, which isnt even in the same area ( I live in San Diego *serra mesa* and I drive to Tierrasanta every day he has therapy ) Right now he has group therapy one day a week for an hour and 1 on 1 therapy with a lady who specializes in apraxhic children for 45 minutes a week. We are though going through our insurance to see if he is autistic or has other problems because its definate something else is wrong with him. Starting last week, I got in touch with the local school again to try to get my 2 yr old into the infant program since he is also falling behind. Ok, sorry for the novel, but to answer your question..... I dont think he should be diciplined at all for what he is "not" doing. I can sit and tell Oscar "come here" 10 times before he will look at me and actually come. Its a little frustrating at times but he struggles enough every day and I would NEVER wanna make anything more stressfull on him, KWIM? My little guy didnt say bye bye and wave bye till he was about 2 1/2 I though he never would. We just worked on it every time we went some where or did something. You just need to work with him. Maybe you can get a referral though him PCM and get him to the developmental delay specialist to have another look at him? thats what our PCM did. I hope you can get him back into ST cause I know it would be soooo hard if we didnt have it available to us. Like I said, our insurance, TP droppped his ST at age 3 and then you go through the school system, you have to try that- they CANNOT not take him if he qualifies and its free through the school system.

Re: s/o: can this be corrected????
ABA (applied behavioral analysis) is a type of behavioral theray used with Autistic and autism spectrum children. Just google ABA. Alot of parent groups offer free training sessions that you can go to to learn to use ABA with your child. There are therapists available as well, but they are expensive and insurance doesn't cover it. An ARD meeting is the meeting you have with the school to discuss your child's therapy and IEP. I can't remember what the letters stand for but you should have had one of these when he started getting therapy and should have another one every year. Just ask for an ARD and they will know what you mean.

You dont have to have insurance or anything, enrolling your 3 yr old into speech therapy at a public school is just like enrolling them into the public school for regular school, its free. They told me all military qualify and there is no reason why Oscar shouldnt get the services he needs. I hope you call the local school district, ask for the special ed dept, explain to them your situation and they should help you get him into school. Most kids get around 2 days a week for an hour each day. Oscar only gets 1 hr 45 min because he gets the 1 on 1 with the apraxhia teacher
