Re: Sigh... name frustration

I had already agreed to use a family name from DH, but neither one of us could find one that really worked. our choices with this is George, William, Martha, Nolan, etc... I have improvised and we are using Willow as a nod to William, but everything else I mention DH as pretty much shot down. Half the names I like he says "that sounds like a boy name" or "I knew a -----" that gets really old. I have a friend that got into an argument over the name with DH the night before their youngest son was born. She left the argument with saying, "fine name him whatever you want!!" Bad Idea... his name is Owen Sam Weiss (insert last name). Her husband is a HUGE Tolkien fan. She just told me this story the other day, I didn't even know his middle name. I feel so bad for that little guy. As far as taking much stock in others opinions on a name... I DO NOT. My family has tried to get us to use certain names which just makes me immediately shoot those down. I will not use a name that I don't love, that could cause the child much grief, or that DH hates. If others don't like it. OH WELL! Sorry I am passionate about names.

I sympathize... No real advice though... We are trying to come up with a name and I'm not sure how you just "pick" a name. It's quite a commitment.

Re: Sigh... name frustration

it is so hard
My oldest is named a junior simply because his father and I could NOT agree on a name. He shot down every single name I suggested because he "knew someone by that name that he didn't like".
On my son's second day (nameless) in the nicu, I finally gave in and agreed to name him after his father. I still don't like it and it doesn't help that I definitely don't like his father now!

Re: Sigh... name frustration

We have been having the name struggle here too. We had a name SET and then it got to where I just did NOT like it at all. I like the sound of it, but when I SEE it, it just isn't his name, yknow?? So anyway, I think we may have decided on something that we both love. Pretty sure it's going to stay a secret til birth though. lol

Re: Sigh... name frustration

My dh has offered to change his decision, if we find a name that is stunning for him. I have backed down and accepted the name we had chosen, because dh really likes it and the baby is "already that name." DH has started doing some searches for Gaelic names, but its like "eh, so what?" for me at this point. If I find something I love, then I will forever feel that I pushed his envelope to not LOVE the name too... so its a catch-22.
