Question Question for moms of tummy sleepers?

So normally my DD sleeps on her side still in a sleep positoner. I have come in the last few nights to find that she has moved position and is sleeping on her tummy. Most of the time her face is turned to the side but once it was straight into the matteress. How does it work with your tummy sleepers? Should I be concerned? Will she breathe alright/ I just don't know. Thanks, Danni

Edit for more info:

My DD is 7 1/2 months old. She has a very firm mattress and no blankets, pillows, stuffed animal etc.

Re: Question for moms of tummy sleepers?

how old is your DD? Can she roll over by herself yet?

My DD was a tummy sleeper from day 1- nothing you could do would keep her on her back/side, she always managed to get onto her tummy somehow. We co-slept from day 1 too, so I never worried about it, I knew I would wake if she paused breathing too long (especially the first 3 months until she rolled from tummy to back).

My girls have always preferred their tummies and once they could roll over, there was no stopping them.

Both of my girls were tummy sleepers. Just make sure you have a firm mattress so that her face doesn't get smothered in the softness. We also banned all pillows, stuffed animals, comforters etc. They each used warm pjs and a knitted/crocheted blanket with lots of air holes.

Re: Question for moms of tummy sleepers?

Once yur DC is old enough to roll over, they're generally old enough that SIDS isn't really a concern any more. Sounds like she is well able to turn her head to the side if she can't get enough air, so I wouldn't worry at all.

The "back to sleep" rule basically only applies until they learn how to roll over. If she's rolling into that posistion herself, no worries.

Actually, those sleep positioners aren't really necessary... you don't have to put them on their sides as newborns, putting them to sleep on their back is safer.

Re: Question for moms of tummy sleepers?

If she's able to change her own sleep position, I would get rid of the positioner. Once their rolling on their own, there's not much you can do.

Re: Question for moms of tummy sleepers?

Our little guy was a tummy sleeper from day one. He would not sleep more than 15 minutes on his back. I think she is old enough to turn her head if she needs too. Our little guy is 16 months old and sleeps face down all the time.

Re: Question for moms of tummy sleepers?

DS wanted to be a tummy sleeper from the beginning, but I resisted putting him down on his back. He loved being slung T2T all the time. As soon as he could roll over himself he slept on his tummy all the time. I think that once your DC is old enough to roll, you shouldn't really have to worry.
