Hi, My son is 9 weeks and exclusivly breast feed. This morning I noticed my one breast was very sore. Yes I did go to the doctors and it is not infected yet. Any more suggestions or home remedies to get my ducts un blocked.
Thanks so much! |

Re: Engorged breast Help!!!!
You could express some to keep the milk flowing. I had such engorged breasts at 2 weeks that I bought a pump even though "everyone" said not to yet. I had to get some out otherwise it hurt too bad. It did lead to an overproduction issue that lead to 5 gallons in the freezer, but if I had backed off on pumping the extra gradually I think my production would have backed off too.

Re: Engorged breast Help!!!!
You can alternate between heat and cold. Use warm compress or a warm shower before nursing. Then use cold after nursing. Oh, and if you do pump, do just enough to allow some relief, don't pump too much so you don't stimulate to produce more. I've gone through engorgement 3 times, every time my milk came in after delivery.

Re: Engorged breast Help!!!!
I've had this happen a few times! Make sure you feed your son in different positions- football hold, laying down and cradle, just to make sure all your ducts are emptied.. Hope that helps!!!

Re: Engorged breast Help!!!!
If there is one particular area that is sore, place your lo's chin in line with it when he nurses. That should help unclog a duct. Good luck!

Re: Engorged breast Help!!!!
I have used cabbage leaves in the past - here is an article: http://www.breastfeeding.com/all_abo...gorgement.html
Also try using compression while baby is nursing. Cup your hand around the breast and rhymetically massage/squeeze to see if there are pockets of milk that are not getting released. http://www.thenewparentsguide.com/br...n-drnewman.htm I also massage afterwards to keep from getting mastitis which I got at 4 weeks and it was terrible. If you are a fever you do need to go back to the Dr immediatly.

Re: Engorged breast Help!!!!
I had this happen to me & developed mastitis. Whatever you do make sure you keep nursing on that breast! If you avoid it, it will only make it worse! Try getting in the shower & letting the hot water run over it. Also massaging it might help to. Painful, I know. Hope you get better sweetie!

Re: Engorged breast Help!!!!
hot showers work nicely. I also pumped a bit the other night because I was so engorged DD was having trouble latching. Just enough on either side to give some relief. I am feeling MUCH better after that!!
