Questions about a Breast Feeding 6 Month Old

My just-turned-six-month old generally sleeps most of the way through the night. She is getting really bad about waking up to comfort nurse very frequently. Like she will fall asleep then toss and turn really fast until she does it so much she just wakes up for real. Or I give her my breast and she goes back to sleep. I'm just very exhausted with all this waking every few minutes all night long. She does not have a pacifier, I took away at about 4 months and she never wanted it afterwards. Is this what I get for doing that?

She just wants you. My 15 month old just wants me. Do you room share or cosleep? She could be hitting a growth spurt and uses the night time nursing for the extra calories. Do you let her fuss for just a minute before responding to her? Not CIO but just giving her a minute to herself. Is she warm enough? My 15mth old has been waking up because its been so cold, but I am under my warm cozy blankets so I don't feel it like she does. A few adjustments and she slept longer. She still wakes up to climb in bed to nurse about 3 am though every day. So I am not be the biggest help.

6 month sleep regression. I know it's hard but I'm in the middle of it too. It's my 3rd baby so I know this too shall pass, and nothing is unchangeable.

I have tried letting her have time to soothe herself and she just wakes up screaming: ( She knows I'm right there so I feel mean and don't do that to her.

I am just exhausted and my neck and shoulder hurts not to mention my nipples from all the this extra breast feeding. A pro though! She has helped even out my milk production.

Re: Questions about a Breast Feeding 6 Month Old

I would also chalk it up to a sleep regression. There is SO much going on in their lives at 6 months!

1- If you've started solids, she may not be doing well with them. Consider cutting back or stopping.
2- Could be teething
3- She may not be nursing enough during the day, so is making up for it at night.
4- She may be mastering a new activity and is spending a lot of energy (mentally) to work on it in her sleep
5- She's getting sick
6- Your period is coming so your supply has slightly diminished

*As you can see there's quite a few possibilities (and those aren't all of them). Trust that you and your baby will live through this.

My almost 6 month old has been doing that for a few weeks now. He used to sleep 4 hours in his 1st stretch and it has been 2 lately. Then up about 3 hours later. I do try to give him a minute but it escalates quickly and I do use a pacifier.

Yea mine escalates quick too so it just isn't what I feel like doing at 3 am, I 'd rather be sleeping!

Hope she lets you get some sleep soon! Mine went through a major sleep regression at 6 months too. She got over it just in time to rest up a bit for her 9 month sleep regression

Heres another thought..... is baby too warm? DS wakes more when he's uncomfortable which has been happening more since we turned on the heat.

Also, I have been known to refuse to nurse and to rock him until its nursing time. This is short for us as he eats every 2 hrs at night. But if I nurse him back down after a shorter time, he's just snacking and then I start a cycle where he keeps waking up to eat but only needs another snack.
