Help me convince DH that domperidone is safe.

I desperately want to try domperidone for my low supply issues but my DH is totally against it. He doesn't trust any foreign pharmacies and to have it compounded in the US is WAY out of our price range. While I could just order it and take it anyway, that would not be healthy for our marriage and I feel that he does have some say in the matter since it affects our DS as well. He is concerned that we don't know exactly what we are getting from an online pharmacy and they could be sending us anything at all. Does anyone have any ideas on how I could convince him otherwise? Honestly he may be right for all I know, but I am willing to take that risk and he is not.

I'm not sure what to tell you on the domperidone.

Have you tried Fenegreek and some of the other supplements to try to get your supply up? Are you getting up at least once at night to pump to try to increase supply?

You could 'argue' that if you don't make enough milk you will have to supplement with formula and you don't 'know' what's in that either!
Good luck!

Re: Help me convince DH that domperidone is safe.

My suggestion would be getting the name of a reputable online pharmacy in Canada, for instance, that is recommended to you by someone you know. A friend of mine is a PA and she recommends a particular Canadian pharmacy for patients without insurance to order medications at huge savings. I can't remember the name of the one she recommends, unfortunately.

I'm Canadian by birth and there is a pharmacy that is near my hometown that I have ordered from in the past and know is a real, reputable place. They stopped selling online a couple of years ago, though.

Personally, I wouldn't order anything online medication wise. I would listen to your DH on this one. Have you tried Fenugreek or mother's milk tea? I know there's quite a few remedies out there, but those are the only two that come to mind.

Re: Help me convince DH that domperidone is safe.

I have PCOS which causes my low supply. Not all women with PCOS have this problem, but unfortunately I do. I have never been able to produce enough even when on full doses of Fenugreek and Blessed Thistle and pumping after every feed when my babies were newborns. With both kids I was forced to supplement with formula by the time they were 14 days old because they were still losing weight. With DS I was told that if he didn't gain weight in the next 24 hours they were going to hospitalize him when he was 12 days old. I have also used Reglan (and yes I know the dangers) and while it did help my supply some, the side effects were terrible for me and I had to stop. The only thing I haven't tried is domperidone. DS is my last baby and I want to be able to say to myself, "You did everything you could to give him as much BM as possible." I want no regrets. I want to maximize what little my body can do.

Right now I am taking Fenugreek and Blessed Thistle, eating oatmeal everyday (even though it makes me gag), drinking water until I float and pumping every chance I can. Right now my DS gets about 10oz of BM and 15oz of formula per day. I have no delusions that I will ever be able to not use formula, my body just isn't capable of that, but I would love to get over 50% breast milk. Domperidone is my last hope of being able to do that.

Good luck, mama. I couldn't do it. Hubby would not be convinced.

Have you tried any fenugreek capsules or mothers milk tea? They totally helped *me* with low supply in the beginning. I have some of both I could send you ffs.

Re: Help me convince DH that domperidone is safe.

I took Domperidone for six months for low supply (likely PCOS and IGT but not diagnosed). It helped me go from 2-4 oz per day to 12-14 oz per day, a huge victory for me. Dr. Jack Newman prescribed it for me - he's the local breastfeeding specialist. He publishes this info sheet on Domperidone, http://www.nbci.ca/index.php?option=...tion&Itemid=17 . He is a licensed pediatrician and also responds to emails. I'm sure if you're husband emailed him with any concerns, Dr. Newman would answer his questions.

Re: Help me convince DH that domperidone is safe.

I myself and many other mamas have used this with no issues. I myself used it with my preemie and I was thankful for this site to give me the info on where to get it.

I took it for over a yr.
let me say I tried everything else. herbs, more food, more water... NOTHING worked. I was under such stress my prolactin was not able to be made.
I tried reglan and it boosted my milk from 1/2 oz to 4 oz in 24 hrs. BUT I could not stay on it over 2 weeks. I was acting weird and it made me jumpy. so I went to dom. I had a full supply as long as I took it

I would in a second, take it again and recommend it.
I got mine from inhouse pharamacy (as well as other meds) and no issues.

its a personal choice but for me breastfeeding was way more important to me then supplimenting.
I had one low with this baby so I used it for 2 days and then didn't need it anymore.
