Pertussis Vaccine?

So here in southern California pertussis is running rampant. Every time I turn on the news I hear of more
Infants dying from it and they usually think they are getting it from their main care takers (Mom and Dad).

I am going to ask for mine in the hospital after I have him and I need DH to check his shot records from the military bc he can't remember his last booster for it. If he isn't up to date on it he is going to get it too.

Would it be unreasonable to ask my parents and my sister to get one as well? We see them almost every week and I know they will obviously be seeing Caleb all of the time.


So I just wanted to run it by you all. Am I being too paranoid here? What are your plans for the pertussis vaccine? Not sure how prevalent the breakout of it is elsewhere compared to here.

DH and I got it and my MIL got it too. I'm still asking my BIL and FIL to get vaccinated.

I'm thinking of getting it as well. I never even thought of asking others though...good point.

My SIL had a newborn at Christmas. She asked everyone to get it before coming for the holidays. We all happily complied (well, except for me since pregnant ladies can't get the vax). I plan on getting mine asap after the birth, and will make sure that visiting grandparents do, too.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who is Planning on this. I know my family will easily comply I just didn't know if I was going completely overboard.

I am planning on getting the vaccine at the hospital and asking my family to get it as well. I know that my parents will be here for a few days after the birth and my MIL will follow that.

NOT unreasonable. Pertussis can get a nb down FAST and keep them there for a long long time.

I got mine prior to getting pregnant. My mom got hers. I need to get on DH to get his. I don't know how I feel about asking in-laws to get theirs but I suppose it's something to consider. I'd hate to be told to get a vaccine! I'm sure my SIL has hers since she has a little one. Not sure about MIL though.
