Breast implants, and breastfeeding?
Has anyone hear done it... I have breast implants and I am going to try with EVERYTHING in my power to breast feed. Has anyone had any complications.
Also, a little tmi that might help is I got them under the muscle, which the DR told me that it wont affect breast feeding if at any point I wanted kids. And now comes the time that I want them

Re: Breast implants, and breastfeeding?
I personally have no experience, but a neighbor has implants and is breastfeeding her son...I think he's about 9 months old now. We've talked a little bit about it, and she wasn't having any complications.

Re: Breast implants, and breastfeeding?
I got them after nursing my first dd. I wasn't planning on anymore children in my late late 20s and single and not even worried about whether or not they would effect my ability to breastfeed. I even have mine over the muscle. Well, I ended up getting remarried and had three more kiddos, lol. I exclusively breastfed my twin boys for almost two years and I am currently nursing my newest lo and have had no problems at all. I even had a rather major lift as well and I had heard this would drastically effect my milk supply. My doc was doubtful I would be able to ebf the twins, yet continued to flourish and I produced more than enough milk.

Re: Breast implants, and breastfeeding?
As long as they didn't cut around the nipple and damage the nerves to the nipple, you should have no problems breastfeeding or making a full milk supply. If you're not sure where the incision was, you can have your OB or an IBCLC take a look. Do mention it to the staff where you deliver so they can be sure to monitor for any issues. Congrats and best of luck!

Re: Breast implants, and breastfeeding?
I actually had implants in my early 20's before I was ever thinking about babies...I had no problems exclusively breastfeeding ds!
Implants usually aren't a problem. Like a pp said, it's about whether there was nerve/ductal damage. You are at an increased risk for engorgment though. I'd recommend being close with an IBCLC to monitor weight gain and for support in the beginning. FWIW, Pamela Anderson breastfed all her kiddos! |
