Re: calling all feta cheese lovers

LOL...thanks mams...I'm going to the store today and getting some....MMMMMMMM

I don't always follow all of the rules either...I do eat sushi and I've been known to eat the occassional oyster too during the super cold months. I don't know why I've been so obsessed with worrying about the feta except when I asked my midwife last pregnancy if she'd ever known of anyone who actually had problems from it she sidi no but then she told me this horrible story about one of her patients who went to Disney and ate a bunch of "fair food" I call it, probably hot dogs and ice cream (also my favorites)...anyway it was a terrible story and the womans baby died in utero at around 36 weeks. It scared the crap out of me.

Feta is among the things I eat regularly- along with blue cheese crumbles. I just don't worry about food when I'm pregnant. I eat hot dogs, soft serve, cookie dough, etc. If I didn't think it was safe, I wouldn't eat it at ALL- not just when I wasn't pregnant.

Now those places I think probably don't have the best food/sanitation procedures! LOL

Re: calling all feta cheese lovers

My midwife told me to microwave soft cheeses and lunch meat for just a few seconds before eating to kill the listeria. She said it doesn't take much. I asked her if pasteurized soft cheeses are ok and she still said they need to be nuked. BTW, I am a HUGE feta fan and eat it daily.

I know someone that worked there. You're right, they don't. Don't ever buy food from a stand that isn't prewrapped.

if it's pasteurized, it's safe. It was the first food I asked my OB about during pg. He gave me the thumbs-up on it.

Re: calling all feta cheese lovers

as long as it is pasturized then it is just like eating cheddar or any other kind of regular old cheese. I happen to be having greek pita cravings so I've been eating a lot of feta the last few days.

Then again I also eat sushi (from a local place I trust and has never gotten me sick) and drink some coffee/black tea, so my approach probably differs from the "norm".
You sound the same as me. I LOVED sushi during my last pregnancy..
I could eat 5 rolls at one sitting!

LOL...I LOVE sushi. I would eat it daily if I could afford it. I don't know why it's so expensive when it's really mostly rice.
