After 2 weeks we went to the grocery store, but I kept her covered to keep people we didn't know from touching her/ or coughing on her etc. I too am NOT a germaphobe, but there is no point in risking her getting sick that young either.

Re: How long will you/did you wait to take your newborn out?

With #1 it was a while...like a month I was soooo worried about germs. With #2 it was a while becaue I had PPD BAD With #3 he was born at home and then 2 days later DH and I and the kids went to Baby Depot to get a head cushion for the car seat because he was so little he was flopping around too much We actually went a lot of places his forst few weeks. I always had him in the wrap/sling so that people wouldn't touch him (it seems people think touching a strangers baby is OK if they are in the car seat sitting in your buggy).

Re: How long will you/did you wait to take your newborn out?

DD1 was about a week old. We had taken her to my ILs' house and stuff but our first trip was to the grocery store.

DD2 was born at home and her first trip out of the house was to a LLL meeting 2 days after she was born. I had been cooped up long enough at that point, and my ILs invited themselves up from Arizona and I was miserable.

DS was also born at home and left the house for the first time at 2 days old. We went to see Harry Potter but it was sold out so we went and got ice cream instead. We went to see Harry Potter the next day

I agree that wearing them in the house and wearing them outside is no different. Like our houses are so clean and a walk in the woods is full of germs??

DD, a couple days. I know we were at the park by two weeks.

DS, we went to the bookstore immediately after leaving the hospital, lol. So he was 24ish hours. I felt fantastic!

Re: How long will you/did you wait to take your newborn out?

My first two were winter babies (middle December and early November) but both time they were out within a week of being born. DD#1 was born on a Tuesday and we went to church on Sunday. DD#2 was born on a Sunday, took a trip with DH and I to Target on a Wednesday, and then to church on Sunday. I can't wait four weeks, and honestly, if I keep the baby in the carseat or on me then I don't worry about people touching too much.

Re: How long will you/did you wait to take your newborn out?

We were released from the hospital when DS was just over 48 hours old. When he was 4 days old, I took him to the library (where my DP worked) to meet everyone, and we allowed other people to hold him. I wasn't worried in the least. At a week old we went to a LLL meeting and to the mall, and at 2 weeks old I took him to the office Christmas party. When he was less than 3 weeks old he was at Christmas mass.

Needless to say, I am not one who hangs around at home with a newborn.

Re: How long will you/did you wait to take your newborn out?

My ped said 6 weeks. However, she had to go back to the hospital every day the first week for bloodwork, and we ran errands after that. So, she was out and about from day 3 on...

We went to the dog park when DD was 3 days old. Our Husky needed it. It was like a month before we took her in a crowded place like the grocery store.
