Re: How long will you/did you wait to take your newborn out?

My nephew went on his first plane ride at 7 days old. Now seeing people keep their babies in make me feel bad! lol

For DS2, we went to a big family Thanksgiving at 3 days and I wore him outside at a winter festival at 1 wk 5 days, but he was bundled and very close to me except for his picture with Santa. He was passed around by family at Thanksgiving though and all was well.

That's crazy! I have never heard of people keeping their babies inside like thats it never occurred to me to ask! We were out and about right away with both of ours.

Jacob was born Friday am, he was born at home so we didn't have to "go out" to get there, but i brought him with me on tues to a chiropractor appt and stopped at the grocery store, and back to the chiro again everyday that week.

Right away- pretty much always in a pouch sling though so at least people couldn't really get to her to touch her.

Re: How long will you/did you wait to take your newborn out?

We left the hospital when DD was 6 hours old. Went to my parents house when she was just a few days old (we live in the same city). We went out for supper when she was about a week and out regularly after that. We waited the week to go out for supper because of me needing to heal after tearing - not because she was new.
With DS -I think he was about a week when we went to the mall the first time.

Re: How long will you/did you wait to take your newborn out?

My daughter was born on a Sunday and I had to turn in some paperwork the following Friday, i took my daughter with me and everyone (of course) had to hold her. I was OK with it for two reasons, 1) it was in the spring - not a cold/flu season, 2) I firmly beleive that the only way your baby can build a strong and healthy immune system is to be exposed to germs... She is 9 months old and is just now suffereing with her first issue - an ear infection...

Not at all.

With Luke we went out the afternoon we got home, but he was 6 days old when we left the hospital & he had NO clothes that fit besides undershirts & diapers & the 2 outfits my sister bought us in the hospital. We went to BRU that afternoon and dropped a pretty penny on preemie clothes!

We didn't just gal-avant around town, because it was October & cold, but we didn't avoid going out. He had a doctor's appointment the day after we brought him home & we had family in town when he was 2 weeks old. (who stayed with us)

This baby is due in August & the weather will be scorching! So, we'll definitely be out & about.

Re: How long will you/did you wait to take your newborn out?

I guess I'm the odd one out, I kept ds1 home for a month, maybe even 5 weeks except for his 2 week doctors appointment, but it was January in Ohio and we did have plenty of visitors. Ds2 was five days old but it was April and I only did that because he had a 5 day check up (totally freaked me out that they wanted to see him so soon since my first didn't go for two weeks but I guess that is normal now, unless that has changed in the past 4 years). This baby it will be the end of April/ beginning of May but odds are he'll be out faster, at least in the car because my oldest hates to ride the bus (motion sickness) and my 2nd son is in preschool so I'll need to drop them off/pick them up. We only live about 10 minutes walking distance from ds1's school though so I'll probably just walk and wear the baby to pick him up. I do like to stay home with them, not because of germs but I just enjoy staying home and relaxing!
