Re: Newborn Stash

I haven't dipered a newborn yet so I don't know how much help I am, but I'm going to have a couple dozen infant prefolds (can always use as stuffers too), a couple dozen premium, a few small PUL covers, a bunch of knitted wool covers, some one sized AIOs and fitteds, and small fitteds and pockets. My babies are on the bigger side so I'm not going to worry about strictly newborn sizes. I figure with enough of a variety, SOMETHING has to fit!

Well... if you already use/like prefolds, I'd stick with that and just get smaller sizes!!

As a pocket lover... I CDed both my newborns in size small GADs and they were great! Both my little ones are long/lean and were 7 1/2 lbs ish when they were born.

I like sized prefolds like Imagines or GMD, so I'd get a few dozen x smalls, a dozen or two smalls, and some NB or stage 1 covers. I also like having a few fitteds for nighttime our outings. I would use fitteds with velcro at night, and fitteds with snaps for outings so we didn't have to worry about poo explosions! Some people like getting xs pockets or aios also, but in my experience NBs grow so fast that they're kind of a waste of $. I'd say you should get 36-40 diapers for a NB and 6-8 covers, 30-36 diapers for size small, and 6 covers. HTH

Thirsties DUOs size 1 covers are awesome for a nb and you can use them longer than more nb covers. I used them on Mikayla up to 15 pounds and if she hadn't had such fat thighs, could've used them longer but I didn't like the snap marks on her thighs. I used infant PF's mostly when she was itty bitty...just folded the back down as needed and I usually folded the front down just a bit to make it easier to wrap around her. It didn't really add any bulk and she seemed comfy in it so I don't think it was a problem. Get the infant snappi for sure though! I used our toddler snappi and it wrapped almost all the way around her tiny waist LOL Personally I LOVE fitteds during this stage though...they're easy to use and contain the BF poop REALLY well! I have a dozen fitteds and 15 PFs right now...planning to get a dozen nb GMD PF's to add to my stash and a couple covers and then depending on whether it's a girl or a boy, I'll either use Mikayla's wool stash (6-8 woolies) or crochet a set of wool for a boy....I'm personally hoping for a boy ^_^

Re: Newborn Stash

So stupid question- but will the preemie prefolds fit a newborn? And can I trifold a preemie prefold with a newborn?

They will fit most newborns for at least couple weeks or more depending on baby's size. Yes, you can use them as doublers later with bigger size prefolds or even in fitteds or anything else.
