Re: episiotomy vs tearing... which is "better"?

I tore on my labia w/#1. No stitches. It bothered me for a loooooooooooooong time.

#2 the OB gave me an epi. I did not have a choice. It didn't bother me only b/c she does vaginal reconstructive surgery and had to repair some nasty, nasty tears. Smaller tear, but she used A LOT of stitches (for the prev mentioned reason). I had no problems.

Re: episiotomy vs tearing... which is "better"?

I tore with my first. My OB does not do them, because you can still tear in a different way/place even if you do have one. This causes your healing time to increase. I won't say that tearing was fun or anything. I had an epidural and I still felt that lol. I also tore from front to back down one side, but I have to wonder how much worse it would have been if I had also had an episiotomy. I personally prefer to tear this time around as well.
