stengthening your bag of waters????

the spontaneous water breaking thread got me thinking. what can you do, any supplements to take that strengthen your bag of waters? my mid dd was born in the caul (sp?) and it was by far my most pain free and easy birth experience. i'd love to repeat this time around!!

The main one I've heard is vitamin C. I drink EmergenC in pregnancy like it is going out of style because it just tastes so good to me. My DD was almost born in the caul. I hope this baby is.

I had read in one book (homebirth at the hospital) and one lady had a super thick sac wall. She had eaten around 100mg of protien a day and the MW who helped deliver said it was because of how much protien she had eaten throughout the pregnancy. I'm not sure if that is true at all, but I thought it was pretty interesting!!

My midwives reommend between 80-100 mg of protein a day to help strengthen the amniotic sac.

I don't know if it necessarily worked for me but my water didn't break until I had been pushing for a while.

also vit B (and you want to take the complex, not just one). vit B also helps morning sickness and helps prevent colic

I have heard vitamin c can help, my water didn't break until JUST before ds2 was born - perhaps it's because I ate oranges like they were going to go extinct when I was pregnant with him

I loved those Emergen C packs with my 2nd and 4th pregnancies. My 2nd the bag of waters broke literally as he was coming out and my 4th was born in the caul. They were both precipitous, uncomplicated births They were the easiest births for me.

I'm not sure about the vitamin C, with my last pregnancy all I could drink was orange juice. My water broke at 30 wks 5 days!

This time I can't stand orange juice and I've made it to 34 weeks so far.

Really interesting! I am a vegetarian who has a tougher time eating protein while pregnant than not... and my bags have always broken early (37wks and 38). I have been craving orange juice like crazy, so that is good to know!!!
