Nah, you're good with that!

My ds's middle name is Cade. When I told my sil that we finally found a name we liked she told me that if their girl had been a boy his name would've been Bradley Kade. But they were done having kids so we took it. Well guess what 4 years later she got preggo and they were having a horrible time coming up with a name. I told her a million times we were totally cool with her using their orginal name. They wanted to call him Kade, which was fine, because my ds goes by his first name

I would use it as well!! Our family isn't very close (we all live states away) and when DS2 was born, it was SUCH a big deal with one aunt that what we named him was the "same name" (Noah Evan) as what my cousin named her kid. I have never met said cousin, and didn't even know she had a son until my aunt brought that up! The reasonings behind us giving the boys that name were completely different, and to me that's all that mattered. Not to mention that they have different last names, and the chances of them even meeting up are very slim.

I don't think it is too similar. I just named DS2 Elias and his cousin is named Elijah. I honestly didn't think the two names were that similar but his parent's freaked.

i would be fine with it, they rhyme but are completely different names. Actually something semi similar happened with us, dh is from India and I hadn't met or talked to any of his family or knew many of their names prior to having ds, and when preggo with ds we decided on the name Chandon, and come to find out ds has an older cousin named Chandani, pretty much the girl version of our ds's name. Kind of like Michael and Michelle I guess..

My in-laws just got a dog & named it Brian, even though that is in the top 5 of names on my boy list. So, yea, if we decide to go with it --the baby & the dog will share a name. (It's my #1, DH isn't as big of a fan.)

I told them we were considering it, but they still named the dog that.

If we ever have a girl, her name will have Lilly in it. The SIL I am talking about in this thread has a dog named Lily. They got the dog long after we told everyone our girl name and WHY. It's after my deceased grandmother whom I adored. it would be Emily Lilly. Years this name has been known. DH's cousin had a kid and they named her Emily, even after I reminded the mother of the child about the name and how much it meant to me.

Maybe that's why I am so sensitive and worried about stepping on my SIL's toes, so to speak. I know how it feels to kinda be run over.

if the fact that they are similar is something that might kind of "haunt" you so to speak, perhaps consider going with Eric.

what does hubby think?

Use it! They are def different names, and they really don't rhyme, either - just sound a little alike.

Kevin doesn't rhyme with Evan.
