Re: Favorite ham and bean soup
I make one that my husband had growing up. He LOVES it. Ham and beans are not my fav but this is a super simple recipe that he and his family really enjoy.
1 lb great northern beans (dry, my mom uses cooked but the dry is nice because it slowly takes the flavors) ham, chopped (I used 2 cups ish) water salt and pepper bacon grease-optional (my MIL always saves bacon grease and adds a tbs or so, I have only done it one time, we are not bacon grease savers. )Take the beans and rinse, put in large crock pot, add ham and salt and pepper, fill with water till about 2 inches from the top. Turn on low and cook for about 10 hours. We serve it with cornbread. Makes a ton and is a cheap, filling meal! |
