maternity photos?

I'm getting a serious case of nesting tonight and keep thinking that I haven't done any maternity photos. I've taken belly shots, but nothing nice looking. I've never done it before and this is planned to be the last baby. Am I nuts for wanting to rush in somewhere like Sears or JC Penney to get a few shots done before this baby decides to come or the 21st hits?!?! Anyone just not do them at all? I so have nothing nice to wear and who knows where my makeup is. Forget finding the flat iron.... I'm a mess!

Re: maternity photos?

I've never done them and this is baby #4 and I won't be doing them. Very little fits me and I can't imagine the work involved with getting myself dolled up for professional pics Definitely not interested BUT if this is something that is important to you, then I say go do it. It'd be pretty inexpensive and then at least you have them so you'll have no postpartum regrets about that

Re: maternity photos?

See, I've never been thrilled with having photos done of myself. I generally do it once a year in the form of forced family christmas photos (I have to DRAG DH in and bribe him....except this year we threw our Christmas tree in the back of a U-Haul and took family photos that way for Christmas.. talk about humor with the eviction ) So, I've never really thought to do them. I'm just thinking it might be nice since this is the last go round. I am not thrilled about the work involved... having to drag my 3 year old with me.

Might be poetic in a way... When I was like BARELY pregnant with #1, DH and I got pictures taken together. Something we've only done once in the 11+ years we've been together. I found out probably a week or 2 later that I was pregnant. I had no CLUE at the time the photo was taken.

Re: maternity photos?

I would go do them! We did ours last weekend and did them last time around as well. I know it's recommended to do them in your 7th or 8th month, but I like the "whole" belly in there. And even waiting so long, the photographer kept saying things like "you have to turn more because you're so small". Little did she know I was 38 weeks pregnant. haha I'm bad about taking belly pics and have almost no pics of myself ever because I'm always the one taking them. So it's important to me to at least get the professional pics done each time. A keepsake for me and baby and I like to add them to the baby book.

Re: maternity photos?

You could always try to check out Craigslist in your area. Under Services and Creative. Sometimes photographers are looking to expand their portfolio and are willing to take on a maternity session for little to no fee...depending on what they need to use themselves. There may not be anyone where you're from, but it's worth a shot. Good luck!

-Advice from a photographer and pregnant chick who just had her session done this exact same way. (The photog that shot mine was actually offering a maternity session in exchange for being able to do a newborn session, as that was what she needed to 'grow' in her portfolio...score for me! It's hard to take your own maternity shots!!)

Re: maternity photos?

I've never done them. It's funny, my first one, I took a new belly shot each month, exactly on the beginning of the new month. My 2nd, I took one maybe every other month. We just HAPPENED to get a photo of the family the day DS2 was born. This one (#3), I think I have taken MAYBE 3 photos? Poor kid...

I had thought about getting some with my other kids, too, but just haven't had the energy to get everyone all "fixed up" and then deal with 2 rowdy boys who probably won't cooperate well anyway.

Oh, DH did take a couple of pics when I was in labor with DS1. I wanted to SMACK him! HA!

Re: maternity photos?

I had some taken when I was pregnant with my DD--I have a friend who is a semi-professional photographer and I really like her work. (She does our family photos each year, too.) I keep thinking I want to do some this time, but I'd really like DH to take them.

Re: maternity photos?

I wouldn't bother with the whole family. there is no way I could deal with the stress of getting the boys to cooperate, let alone DH who is very anti professional photos.

DH is off work this evening so maybe I'll force him to take us all to the park and let him snap a few photos.. It would be the easiest option. The boys would be occupied with playing and my camera takes decent photos, particularly outside.

That sounds like a great idea! Outdoor light will be great! I hope you get some good shots.
