Tell me why I'm so mad...

DS2 is 2 1/2 months old and EBF. My dingbat of a brother tried to feed him mashed potatoes today (after I repeatedly told him not to!). I turned my back for 5 minutes, turn back around and DS2 is knawing on mashed potatoes! I was soooo livid! I think I fished them all out of his mouth before he swallowed any...

He told me that I was being overprotective and ridiculous. Tell me the benefits of delaying solids so I have more back up next time (hopefully there is not a 'next time'). But just in case, I need a better argument than "His little digestive system isn't ready for it...but I don't know why."

The reasons I always use is that it will tear up my DD's digestive system and significantly raise the likelihood that she will be obese and all the other negative effects that come along with it. Babes who eat solids too early have LOTS of belly/poopy troubles.

On a less medical note, you could tell him it will also make her poop smell really bad, and ask if he'd like to change her? Most people who don't have or care for ebf babies don't realize the poop differences.

You don't need a better reason than 'I'm his mom and I know he's not ready'. He should respect your wishes, plain and simple. I'd be mad too!!

The baby could choke. They still have a tongue reflex that usually won't allow them to swallow properly.

I would never let him touch my kid again. When he eventually realizes you're not kidding - he'll get it. Also tell him he's a stupid idiot who doesn't know anything about babies and you hope to hell he never has any, because he is going to kill them.

Absolutely! Especially since it's your brother - he has no say in how you raise your kids.
