How often do you feed an 8 month old?
DS was nursing 7 times a day up until 3 weeks ago and then he started sleeping through the night (wuhoo!) and ended up dropping 2 feedings. So he is typically nursing 4-5x a day now. Is that enough? It just seems so little, but he is eating solids 3x a day as well. Thanks for any input!

Re: How often do you feed an 8 month old?
My 7.5 month old is nursing 5-6 times a day (well, 4-5 times during the day and once during the night), but it seems like she is going to drop one soon.

Mine always fed a lot more than that, but they also didn't eat solids 3x per day until more like 11 months.

Their intake for milk should really stay the same. Offer breast or milk BEFORE offering food. Food is for the experience, NOT the nutritional value. Your milk covers their needs, so don't PUSH solids over breast. But they usually still eat just fine AFTER the breast. So try there. My goal would be 8x in 24 hours.

Re: How often do you feed an 8 month old?
5-6 times a day...I try to feed him before we eat but sometimes it doesn't work out. He nurses at least once in the night. But he loves solid food. I think it depends on the baby. My DD didn't like solids that much so she just nursed a lot. DS loves solids, fusses at me to get them ready for him. So I just go with it, and try not to worry and let him give you the cues.

Re: How often do you feed an 8 month old?
I was just wondering the same thing about my 8.5mo DD. Thank you!
She's still doing 1 or 2 feeds per night, with a total of 7-8 per 24hr. If she drops the night feeds, I expect we'll just have longer feeds and 5-6 per day. |

Re: How often do you feed an 8 month old?
My 9 month old is tiny and she probably nurses 5 or 6 times during the day and 3 or 4 times at night. I'm hoping she will drop the night feeds soon and nurse more during the day but I'm not holding my breath.

Re: How often do you feed an 8 month old?
I was just wondering this. My ds prefers solids, and he gets too distracted to nurse during the day--he will nurse for like 5 minutes at a time half a dozen times in a two hour period (annoying). He's really only nursing 5 times total now & 3 of those are at night! Ugh!

Re: How often do you feed an 8 month old?
I'm all for nursing on demand. With six kids, I am always in the kitchen fixing food or nursing toddlers. My four year old nurses at night and my two year old nurse throughout the day. It gets hard sometimes but I have to remember this is the best food that they can get and they will only be little for so long. And yes, they eat all day too. We are a grazing family of mostly raw vegan food diet,so I know my milk is the best for them.
Good luck! |
