Name brand prenatal vitamins... do you bother?

I feel like I'm on a lot of supplements this pregnancy (pro-biotics, Vit D, Vit C, fish oil, formerly magnesium citrate, and of course the prenatal vitamin). Cost adds up! I started buying the cheapest ones I could find, no name or whatever. My naturopath explained that sometimes brand does matter, as the way it's formulated makes it easier for the body to break down.

I'm having trouble with that though... I mean it's hard to tell if vitamins and supplements are doing their jobs to begin with, right?!

Am I being too cheap?! Is there anything else I'm missing?

I have always just used Target Brand which two different OBs in the office I go to told me are great vitamins. I continue taking the vitamins through nursing, straight into the next pregnancy, and on so I take a ton. I also have to take a seperate iron pill which I'm fine with taking two different pills a day.

I took the walgreens brand and my doctor told me that they were just fine!

I took the wal-mart brand with all 4 pregnancies, my doctors all said they were fine. My kids have all been perfectly healthy. I got a script this last time, but they would have been $60 for 30 days with my insurance. Um, no thanks!

Eta: I'm still taking them since I'm bfing, and will continue until we're done.

I take rainbow light, it was $33 and change for 90 of them. I got them at my local health food store. I also take flax seed oil, fish oil, a b supplement, calcium and a vitamin c supplement. I buy the stores brand and look for sales.

I was taking kroger brand prenatal but had severe constitution issues from them.

You could also try ordering from places like frontier to help with the costs. I'm just not together enough to order that in advance and am spoiled by living a block from the health food store

The only differences are between whole food vitamins (New Chapter, Rainbow Light, etc), and regular vitamins.

Whole food vitamins work better (though it is still expensive pee ) because, well, they're made out of food!

Just had to LOL with your "constitution" issues.

I have done both. Right now I am taking Rainbow Light prenatals and will get another bottle when I run out of these. These are easier on my system (different iron, doesn't make me puke).

Re: Name brand prenatal vitamins... do you bother?

I do believe some name brands of prenatals are better than others. I really wanted a food based vitamin and I also wanted a one-a-day since I am horrible at remembering to take pills unless my husband puts them out for me in the morning before he leaves for work. The only brand that meets my requirements is Super Nutrition Simply One Prenatals.

If they are FDA approved then they'll have the same stuff as a brand name will. And not all brand name are FDA approved (I think One A Day isn't FDA approved). I just take the Nature Made ones.
