We do plan to go out of the country in the future, and I plan on going to Haiti (a third- world country) next summer. We selectively vax, not always on schedule, but one of the reasons that I do these ones is because I know (or at least hope) that my children will have the opportunity to see these other places.

Yep, sure would, if that country had a real risk. We are blessed here in the USA with clean drinking water, clean places to live, we don't walk in other people's or animals crap.

As a matter of fact, I feel that if the Pharm companies were SO concerned about "world health" they could take every last dime they made here and send medicines to countries where the benefits of vaccines greatly outweight the risks and children are dropping like flies...but that's just my two cents

Edited to say that I didn't think about "vacation" I was thinking more along the lines of doing humanitarian work in a country where diseases are rampant. Going to Paris or something? Nahh, I'd be perfectly happy chomping on fattening foods without getting my "shots" LOL!

Our doc said that he checked into this when he was going to Mexico, and discovered it was safer there because people vax without question, they just do it. Whereas NYC, you have more chance of contracting pertussis or something because fewer people vax? I dunno. Worth checking into, I guess. Maybe it's safer than people think.

Pertussis is endemic in the USA. The vaccine does not stop the spreading of the disease. I think your doctor might be confused.

Depends. I'd evaluate the risks and go from there. For a vacation, more than likely no. We'd take clean drinking water, etc. so there wouldn't be any lowered immune system from living in a third world country. More than likely, no I would not. But I can't say that for sure as I've not been in that situation.

I would not expose my child(ren) to living conditions where there was no safe water, food, and living conditions. Any travel we would be doing we'd make provisions for that. So long as those conditions were met we wouldn't need to vax, because we could keep the immune system up.

The incidences of disease go waaaaaay down as soon as living conditions are improved on, and I wouldn't risk my child(ren) health by exposing them to unsafe conditions... there are way too many things we don't vax for that would be problematic.

So nope... never, no matter what we were doing or where. The risk is still higher than the benefit for us.
