Reusable snack bag problem

I bought some cotton snack bags from Etsy and I love them but DH is complaining that his pretzels are stale by the time he eats lunch (I make them the night before). Is this a problem with all bags or do I need to try a different kind?

Thanks!

Re: Reusable snack bag problem

I think it's just the material. Because cotton, or whatever material it's made from "breathes" so do the pretzels and they end up stale. I suggest waiting till the morning he leaves for work! WOW i'm amazed you pack lunches at night! Gosh i can't seem to finish cleaning the kitchen let alone pack lunches.(i work full time)

Re: Reusable snack bag problem

Makes sense. I just pack his lunch before bed because I am too lazy to get up with him in the morning to do it. I will give it a try in the morning and see if that helps. Thanks!

I have/make some lined with waterproof nylon and they keep things fresh much better than my cotton/muslin bags do.

Re: Reusable snack bag problem

I have heard this about all snack bags. But maybe some lined with waterproof material would help.

Re: Reusable snack bag problem

since they don't "ziplock" they aren't airtight so anything will get stale faster than in a sealed container. But there are some snackbags out there with zippers. Snack Happens has them. Personally I find the zipper kind of a pain but it might help. They are lined with some kind of PUL fabric though. I use snacktaxis mostly. The pretzels do get stale after a day or so but I would think less than 24 hours would be ok.

Re: Reusable snack bag problem

I make mine lined with PUL. I HATE stale snacks so I was worried that they wouldn't keep them fresh but I just got out a bag of animal crackers from several weeks ago that were still fresh in my cotton/PUL baggie! I know some people have issues with PUL touching the food, but that or nylon is probably the only thing that'll keep it fresh. HTH!

I use cotton ones. I pack in the morning. No problems as of yet.

Re: Reusable snack bag problem

Since PUL is not food safe, wonder if it would work to sandwich it an dnot hav eit touch your food? Haven't tried it though...
