Frequency of washing

I've been stretching out my wash routine now that I have enough diapers. I can go up to 4 days without running out of clean ones. But I'm wondering if sitting dirty that long is bad for the dipes. It seems like since I started spacing out my washes more, the dirty diapers in the pail get stinky (mostly ammonia) faster and then we're stuck with a stinky pail for 2-3 days. I sprinkle baking soda into my pail almost every day but it doesn't help enough. Do I just need to go back to washing every 2-3 days?

Re: Frequency of washing

That is why I wash eod. Especially in the summer time. Having a four day stash is soooo nice, though. That way you can air dry when you want/need to and your stash won't wear out so quickly.

Re: Frequency of washing

We have to wash every 5 days. We use a laundry mat and it's so expensive to use cloth because of it. I also have like 70 diapers so my rotation is big enough that the same diapers aren't sitting that long over and over. It's probably bad to do that for a long period of time but since we are only here for 4 months total, I think it's ok. I started rinsing DD's morning diapers and our pail stopped smelling like ammonia.

Re: Frequency of washing

Hmm I never thought to rinse dd's morning diapers. I think I'll try that.
I've found that I usually have to do a couple extra rinses and/or more soap iin my wash routine if my diapers are left longer than 2-3 days. But that may just be me.

I agree with rinsing out the diapers will help with the ammonia. How do keep your diaper pail though? I keep mine open and even when I was washing every 3 days, I could never smell it.

I also wash EOD. If I wait to long to wash, the poo in the diapers look like blood is in the poo but there isn't. does that make sense. it just gets all discolored and creeps me out. I reccomment washing EOD even if you have enough to wait longer.

It really helped We do 2 rinses prior to washing also since we have to go 5 days between washes.

I use to be able to go 4-5 days but didnt like to. The smell was horrible and then I had to do extra rinses to get them fully clean. I like to was every 2 days any more then that just doesnt work. I do love the idea of washing out the morning dipe. I see that helping.
