Re: Birth weight vs coming home weight?
My dd was born at 36 weeks 3 days at 6 pounds 3 ounces and was down to 5 pounds 10 ounces when she came home three days later. My son was born at 7 pounds even and was down to 6 pounds 12 ounces when he came home the next day.

Re: Birth weight vs coming home weight?
With my last preemie our hospital requires babies to reach 2000g before coming home...DS was 4 lbs, 11oz, and his birthweight was 2lbs, 14oz (29 weeks). He was in the NICU for 6 weeks

Re: Birth weight vs coming home weight?
My only preemie, was born at 34w4d. He weighed 5lbs13oz. He spent 10 days in the NICU and when he was discharged (would've been 36 weeks gestation exactly) he weighed 6lbs7oz. He never lost weight and actually gained really well from day 1. (Geesh, now at almost 9 months old he weighs about 25lbs!)

Re: Birth weight vs coming home weight?
My twins were born at 32 weeks. NICU stay was 28 days for DD, 3 months for DS (though he was sent home twice in that time, and had to go back.)
At birth DD was 3lbs 2oz; a bit less than 5lbs at discharge At birth DS was 3lbs 7oz; around 5lbs at initial discharge after 28 days The criteria for them was that they could regulate their body temps, take all feedings by mouth, and have no apnea/desaturation episodes. There was no specific weight goal. ~9.5 months out (so 7.5 corrected age) DD weighs 16lb .5oz, and DS weighs 14lb 6oz

My twin boys were 27 weekers and weighed in at 2 lbs and 2 lbs 1.6 ozs. Came home after 60 and 66 days weighing 5 lbs 2 ozs and 4 lbs 15ozs respectively. That made them 36 ish weeks adjusted when they came home. They will be 6 mo actual 3 mo adjusted on the 4 th and just hit 10 lbs!

Re: Birth weight vs coming home weight?
All 4 of my kids have been in the NICU. I will say in all my hours spent talking to NICU nurses and drilling them for answers
"Most" babies go home between 4-6 lbs. Of course there are exceptions to the "most" rule, my kids have always been small for gestational age.DD#1 was 4 lbs 15 oz and came home at 4.10 DD#2 was 1 lb 8 oz and came home at 3.15 DS#1 was 1 lb 10 oz and came home at 5.14 DD#3 was 3 lb 15 oz and came home at 4.8 |

Re: Birth weight vs coming home weight?
Our NICU said there is no weight requirement on which he will have to meet to come home. As long as he is doing all the other things he needs to be doing, he can come home.
