Etsy shop v. Website (if you have both)

I just recently opened my own Etsy site selling wool dryer balls. I have had a decent number of sales and even have one huge bulk sale of 200 which should bring me in a decent amount of business. I am wondering for those who have Etsy sites and their own websites, which do you find getting the most business? Do you keep both up and running? I just recently bought my own domain and started working on my website but I am unsure if it will be worth it in the end. Thanks!

Re: Etsy shop v. Website (if you have both)

I am JUST starting out, but I purchase my domain and I am going to have it forward to my artfire store. For me I don't think it is worth it to have both, but I also have not looked into the costs of running my own cart. I like the idea of being able to my my domain name on the business cards, and it gives me the flexibility in the future to have my own site if I choose

If you have more than enough inventory to keep both stocked, why not have both? My problem is that I can't make enough to keep an inventory I'd be happy with in one location, let alone two so I dropped my website store and just sell on Etsy. Also, I would have to do a TON of marketing to get as many people to my website as my Etsy store. It is nice that Etsy is well known and people will just go to your store there without you doing extra work. Right now I just use my website for information and have a link there that sends people to my Etsy store, facebook, twitter etc.

Getting your own domain name is always a good idea. I have both an etsy shop and a shopping cart on my website to give my customers the choice. When I want to just offer one of a kind, I list in my etsy or hyenacart. The articles I can duplicate easily (like my baby wipes) are always up on my website. Hope it helps!

I didn't even think about getting my own domain name. Something to think about for sure!
