Licorice during pregnancy safe?

Ok, so I ate a ton of licorice during both of my first 2 pregnancies... actually it was one of my major cravings. So anyway tonight right after I had eaten a massive bag of salted dutch licorice and posted about how i was craving it all week on facebook, my sister sent me a message and said it can cause a miscarriage! Ever heard of that?

It does seem to be contraindicated for pregnancy. Also, there are studies suggesting heavy consumption during pregnancy increases cortisol levels in children. I would say a piece now and then wouldn't be a problem, but maybe no more whole bags

I had read about it maybe raising blood pressure. But that's only TRUE licorice. So depending on what you're eating or what you like, it might not be a big deal. There is lots of fake licorice out there, so if you like that it might be an option too. Licorice is one of my favorites and I craved it really bad with my first. I would limit myself to one Panda licorice bar. That way I didn't have a whole bag to tempt me.
