Food Dyes

Wow...how disturbing. Sometimes I just get so angry at the FDA...they will approve anything! And at what cost? At the cost of our health.

We typically avoid all dyes and we don't get candies, etc. Cereals are a tough one, though. We try to eat organic when posible, etc. I really feel this will benefit us in the long run.

Yeah, I've been staying away from food dyes for awhile now. Occasionally they sneak in with a bag of m&ms, but otherwise nothing. I tend to avoid giving DS the red & yellow m&ms anyway

Also, you have no idea how happy I was when I saw that Cheez-its were colored with paprika :P

And this is the reason I have a no food dye rule for my babe. I am even going so far as to use melted chocolate to write Happy Birthday on her cake instead of colored icing.

My DS is one of those kids that is significantly impacted by those petroleum based food dyes, preservatives and flavors.

We pulled all that stuff from his diet in January. He is now better behaved, can concentrate easier, can fall asleep easier and is much healthier all around. Before pulling that stuff from his diet, he had what we thought were chronic seasonal type allergy symptoms. His nose was always runny, even with daily allergy medicine, he had multiple bouts of bronchitis, an episode of pneumonia, chronic ear infections and even was developing a nightly cough. I was worried asthma was next. I did some research and decided to follow the Feingold Diet and pull all those artificials from his diet.

Now he doesn't have any allergy symptoms and he doesn't need any allergy medicine. I was his food that was making him sick.

My son can't handle food dyes. I saw a news report at the end of June that I have been searching for, but can't find. It said that the scince commision or what ever they are called has been doing research and has found that among other problems dyes can cause kids excessive hyperactivity. They are trying to get the FDA to take them off the market. we use natural food dyes that I get at my health food store for icings and stuff. the colors aren't the same as you get with fake dyes, but they aren't fake, so I dont care

Trying to figure out triggers to my psoriasis, I started making most of my own food (i.e. tomato sauce, apple juice, etc..) and was amazed how different 'real' food looks compared to store bought. Store bought is pretty scary...
