Changing his name....

We were going to name this LO Nathan Todd. I love, love the name, but my friend just lost her LO and named him Nathaniel. Just out of respect for their loss, I'm changing his name....

What do you think of Valor Todd? (Todd is after my dad)

Re: Changing his name....

If you like it that is all that matters. I am not familiar with Valor, I am always weary off to uncommon names or names people would fail to pronounce right.

That said my son has a uncommon name his name is Luca Francis.

To be honest when I read that I would pronounce it velour. IS that correct? If not maybe tweek the spelling.

I like Valor a lot!! I can totally understand why you would want to change the name, too.

Re: Changing his name....

If you and your hubby like the name a lot, it oughtn't matter so much if everyone else likes it. I see why you'd want to change the name out of respect, and that's probably a good call given the situation. I seem to gravitate toward more traditional boy names, so I'm not a great one to ask about creative name ideas... Still working on a name for our guy due in a few weeks.

Good luck, mama!

I like traditional names also, for my own children. However I love more creative names for other people's children. I like Valor - and I don't have any problem knowing how to pronounce it! I think that is very thoughtful of you to change the name to honor your friend and her baby.

Re: Changing his name....

I would probably change the name if you could find something you loved. I'm not a fan of Valor, I would probably stick to something more the style of your first name choice (Nathan, more classic).

I like the sound of Valor but it seems a lot for a kid to live up to, kwim? That's true with a lot of virtue names though (Honor, Charity, Grace, etc.)

I haven't heard of the name Valor before. Honestly at first thought, I don't care for it much. But, I do think it's one of those names that would grow on me. I used to hate the name Avery, reminded me of an old man or Avery paper, but now that it's everywhere I've gotten used to it.

I agree with this. We're naming our son Maximilian (he'll go by Max) but I wanted Maximus! I liked how it sounded so Roman. My DH brought up a good point that with our luck he'd grow up to be super scrawny and nerdy and Maximus just would be a lot to live up to.

BUT - that all being said, if it's what you love, then it doesn't matter! Our girls name was Jovie and I was always spelling it for people - but I liked it too much to care!
