Re: What car seat should I get? ...

I voted marathon. It can rear face longer even though they have the same rf weight limit because the RA is outgrown by height rf earlier.....usually around 18 months or so. The RA is usually outgrown by height forward facing well before a child hits 40lbs....which means getting another harnessed seat! In the long run you definately save money by just getting the marathon! You will need a booster after the marathon, since most kids outgrow it between the ages of 4.5-6, depending on the torso height of your child. Most kids need a booster until around at least ages 8-10.

I voted Marathon, my DD will be in hers until she is too tall (way more likely than her being too heavy for it) then she will go to a booster! No choice here either, no matter how many complaints I get.

I vote for the Marathon as well. IMO, this isn't an area that a child should have a choice in. Her safety comes way before her wanting to be buckled in like a big girl. My almost 6 year old is in a Regent and will stay there until she outgrows it. Safest option is to keep the child in a 5 pt harness as long as possible.

Re: What car seat should I get? ...

I think you will still need a booster after the Marathon. I'm pretty sure my 6 year old is too tall for the Marathon, and its too narrow for his shoulders. He is only around 50 lbs as of a year ago so well under the weight limit. Even if he were 60 lbs, he would legally have to be in a car seat or booster seat hear until age 8 or 80 lbs.

Re: What car seat should I get? ...

I voted other. Getting the Roundabout isn't a good plan because you don't know when your kid will outgrow it so you can't just assume they'll be ready for a booster then (they could be 2). However, if I had the room for it rear-facing or a larger forward-facing child who also needed a harnessed seat I'd go for the Radian. Despite it's high height and weight limits, the Marathon is not very comfortable for big kids to use. I have one (actually a Decathlon, but the same basic shape) for my 40+lb 3 yr old and it's up too high for climbing into comfortably and doesn't support her legs well. I would much rather be using it for my rear-facing baby, but it is the only high weight seat I have right now. I am very excited about the new Recaro convertible set to come out in June/July. It sounds like it will be a great baby and older kid seat. My favorite thing by far on the Britax seats is the seat belt lock-offs so that locking clips aren't needed in my old cars. Fortunately, this feature is starting to show up in other brands as well.
