Natural moss killer?

We just moved into a new house at the end February and since you can now mow your lawn (if your really quick ) I've noticed that we have a big problem with moss in our grass. I had asked my husband what to do when I noticed it (he's still stationed 1000 miles away) and he just said to use chemicals, but I have asthma and I just don't like chemically crud anyway. So any ideas ladies?

Is moss really a bad thing? We have a couple little patches on our lawn on the shadiest side of our house. Personally, I love moss! I would have a whole yard full of moss if I could!

We have moss growing on our North facing drive way and it is really slippery! I'd love to know a chemical free way to get rid of it. It seems to be a chronic problem here in the Pacific Northwest.

Yeah, i love moss! If its in an area like the driveway or stairs I use the power blast whatever setting on the hose (when I lived in Oregon) but I LOVE moss in the lawn. way softer than grass and more biodiversity is good for everyone.

Well, the moss is killing all the grass we have and we have a HOA to deal with. :eyeroll: Our grass has to look nice or... Well, I'm not sure what they will do, but I don't need to deal with them throwing a fit, ya know?

Re: Natural moss killer?

We rototilled our moss under and planted a new lawn, which looked great for a year. Then the moss came back. I know you can spray it, but it's a semi-shady area with good moss-growing conditions, so it seems like short of cutting down trees, we're going to have to be moss farmers.

I would go check out the nearest garden/home store. there are grasses that have been hybridized to take over anywhere. We had a field of pure rocks on out property, dh covered them in woodchips and planted bermuda grass and now its a beautiful lawn.

I was thinking about going to the nursery I bought all our flowers from and asking for advice. Its in a college town, so its pretty crunchy. They might have some natural ideas... hopefully.

I LOVE moss!! You can use it to decorate the outside of pots and it still grows.

But if you really don't like it, just pull it up.
