Looking for laundry soap/detergent/pre-treater for oily stains on laundry

Hey Mamas help me out here! My 3 boys are killing me with stained laundry. If I don't pre-treat every shirt and pair of pants I get oily stains Please recommend some laundry detergent or pre-treaters for oily stains. Either store bought or homemade, prefer natural or green products. I have made the homemade laundry det with the fels naptha and I have stains. The only thing that works right now is a squirt of Shout on the stain or oxy-clean liquid. But I don't like Shout, don't like the smell and don't like buying it Oh and no TIDE please

Tell me how you use it? I tried it in a pre-wash and diluted in a spray bottle and neither got the stains out.

Dawn is an awesome "de-greaser" and works well as long as it is rinsed out VERY WELL before you put the clothing item in a normal wash cycle (otherwise you'll end up with WAAAAY to many suds in your clotheswasher). I've used it myself many times, and I've had excellent results on greasy type stains--especially when DH has spilled food on his nice shirts. :-) ...I've not had great luck with it for other stains, though. To be honest, for other types of stains, I had to scrub and use so much Dawn that it ended up aggravating my Eczema... UGH. Just wasn't worth it for me. But maybe other Mama's have had better luck?

Regarding the "green factor": Unfortunately, as far as I understand, Dawn isn't any more "green" than the other pre-treaters you already mentioned above. Has anyone else heard differently? Maybe there is another newer formulation of Dawn that I'm not familiar with.

I have had some success with SOAKING things in BioKleen's "Bac-Out" product. When I've given my items adequate time to let the Bac-Out get a head start, I have noticed a difference in the results. But I'm with ya Mama, so far Shout has done the best job (and quickest) job of getting out some of my kiddo's laundry stains... I'm hoping this thread might produce some good alternative ideas!

Kind Regards, WooKid

Anyone use simple green as a prewash or pre-spray?

If it's greasy, then whatever you use in the kitchen to break up grease should work to treat. Probably you'll need to scrub them by hand, rinse, and then wash like you normally would. Greasy stains also typically need hot water.

There are a few supposedly green versions of OxyClean. I use OxoBrite, which is supposed to be earth friendly, but I admit I haven't done research to see if it's better than OxyClean or how green it is. It works, though. I mix some in hot water, mix it up, add the clothes, let them soak at least overnight, then dump it all in the wash (soak water and all) and wash as usual in hot water and rinse at least twice in cold.

On oil spots/stains, I use baby powder. I kind of douse the spot, rub it in, and then just throw it in the dirty laundry to sit until I wash (or let it sit overnight). I guess the powder draws out the oil? Always works for me.
