This is how it is here too

ds is 23m and when he started to stand we made him sit or get out, he does pretty good for the most part now with sitting.

Before they could stand reliably on their own without holding on to something (meaning, so slipping most of the time, no wobbling...standing steadily as you or i would)...I'd make them sit down...but now, they're 3yo & 19mo and they're both steady standers I let them do whatever they want (within reason!! They're not monkeys as much as they'd like to think they are!)

Only standing if we are washing bodies. They sit the rest of the time. I stayed in the bathroom with my boys until they were 5 yrs old. It will be the same with my girl.

Sitting unless standing is needed for washing here too. It's just not safe for my toddler to be standing in the tub. It's too easy for her to slip. My almost 4 y/o has asked to take showers recently and even he slipped (with non-slip stuff on the bottom of the tub!) so he's back to taking baths.

I just made it the rule and it's like other people said, if she wants to play, she stays seated. We've gone through phases where she tried to stand but she always realizes that she needs to sit if she wants to be in there for anything other than washing.

Re: do you make your dc sit in the bath?

My Dc absolutely have to sit down when they take a bath. I have heard of children dying from hitting their head on the tub itself or faucet and then going under the water. I also stay with them in the bathroom until they are older than 2 usually nearly 3 years old. My DD is 16 months old, and it is still too easy for her to slip under the water. My 3 yo nearly drown in the bathtub at about this age (16 months) when my now 9 yo son forgot to let the water out of the tub and little guy got in clothes on and all. Luckily he got himself out of the water, but it scared the crap out of all of us because we were all standing outside the bathroom and didn't even know he was in the water until he started screaming and choking.

No standing or your out in my house too.
Dd lies flat in the water for hairwashing and sits for rinsing, she can get on her hands and knees. onto knees to reach for toys.
Even with me holding one hand she has slipped before, I managed to grab her with the other hand. If I hadn't she would have spun around and ended up with a spiral fracture of the arm, she went so fast.

No standing here. DS knows this...DD has to be reminded occasionally but she is really pretty good about sitting all the time.

Re: do you make your dc sit in the bath?

Gavin won't stand in the tub only because he's afraid of falling. We have linoleum and tile floors throughout our house. It's tile in the bath and hall, so if he walks off of the rug with wet feet he may slip and fall. So after falling a few times on the floor and in the tub, he doesn't stand up or try running off after I take him out.
WE kept fighting with him to not stand but he learned by falling on his butt a few times.
