is this ok to eat?
i found a whole chicken in the bottom of my deep freeze. the date on it is feb 06...
it still looks good. color is just like they are in the store. not grey looking at all. do you think it's ok to eat? i have it in the fridge to thaw out and of course i'll know for sure tomorrow when i open it if it still smells fine or not. but do you think i should have something else planned for supper tomorrow instead of this chicken? should i go ahead and cook it or throw it out now? thanks! |

Re: is this ok to eat?
I did it before and Im still alive , no really the turkey was tdf I found it quite odd because I thought it would be dry from the freezer. There are websites online that will tell you how long you should freeze meat.

Personally, I'd toss it. I'd rather spend the money to buy a new chicken, than possibly get sick from it.

Re: is this ok to eat?
I know the issue is already passed, but just and FYI for the future. You won't get sick from something like this; it's not bugs that limit the time in freezer. What happens is that, although frozen, the fat starts to break down and becomes rancid. So although the MEAT is ok, it will taste bad because the fat has gone off.
So, the more lean a cut of meat, the longer it can be frozen. |
