Re: Sort of a breastfeeding question but looking for lots of opinions

I gained 60 pounds with both of my kids.

With DD, I lost steadily for a while and then it seemed to slow down. I held onto about 10 or 15 pounds of that until DD self-weaned at 10 months, then I lost a bunch more and was about 8-10 pounds less than my pre-pg weight.

With DS, I steadily lost weight until about 5 or 6 months, when I started REALLY losing weight. I was starving all the time. DS was a huge baby with a big appetite and I felt that I couldn't get enough. By the time he was 7 or 8 months I was down to about 5 pounds less than my pre-pg weight, which that time was the smallest I had been since college. I was feeling REALLY skinny for a little while. When he slowed down with growth and started eating more solids/nursing less, I gained a few pounds back, maybe like 5?

So yeah, I feel that BFing helped me lose weight in the case of DS, but in DD's I felt like I was hanging onto it. It didn't rapidly fall off or anything though, I guess it takes a while for 60 pounds to come off, no matter what you are doing.

This time, I've got 6 weeks to go and I've gained about 40 pounds, I think. So I probably won't make it up to 60. We'll see how long it takes to come off!

Re: Sort of a breastfeeding question but looking for lots of opinions

With DD I lost all of my baby weight (about 20 lbs) and another 15 or so. However, I still had the "flabby" belly and once we started weaning at about 13 months, the weight came back pretty easily. I'm hoping with this new one that I'll lose the weight as well and hopefully be more motivated to keep it off!

Re: Sort of a breastfeeding question but looking for lots of opinions

I am both I lost quickly in the first month or so and then I can't loose any weight at all. I work out 5 days a week and have been on weight watchers for 13 weeks and have lost a whopping 2 pounds. I had to start this because I actually started gaining weight. That is A LOT of work for almost no result. Although I look better I think. I really believe that I can not lose weight breastfeeding. I couldn't with DD either but then I got pregnant before she weaned so maybe it is just me. I am praying that when ds weans I will be able to shed 20 or so pounds

ETA: I gained 32 with botof my pregnancies and I lost like 25ish in the first month both times, but held on to 5 after dd and now hanging to about 5 more after ds.

Re: Sort of a breastfeeding question but looking for lots of opinions

I have a friend who absolutely did lose that much weight from breastfeeding. She was petite to begin with, and when she nursed her son she lots tons of weight, and had to stop exercising because she couldn't maintain a normal weight.

Me, I lost maybe 10 pounds after initially losing the weight I gained while pregnant (about 25 pounds,) then around 8 weeks post partum I kinda got stuck at the weight I'm at now. No matter how much I exercised I still hung on to a little extra weight. Now that DD is weaning I'm slowing working it down, but I suspect I won't lose it all until she is done completely.

hahahahah, no.

I struggled to lose weight. It was hard for me to even lose the baby weight, because I was worried about my supply.

I did lose weight while I was nursing and pregnant. It was out of character for me, and probably a little unhealthy. I was super sick in the beginning too.

Re: Sort of a breastfeeding question but looking for lots of opinions

I didn't have the support with my first as I do now with my second (thanks diaper swappers) so I formula fed her from a month on and never lost any weight even while going to the gym. This time I'm ebfing and NOT going to the gym and the weight melted off! I really hate it because I feel like a freaking walking stick and not like the healthy looking woman with a nice body that I was before! My parents actually asked if I'm feeling well=(. I guess everyone is different but I wish I could gain some back but maybe when my baby weans...(waaaah he's growing too fast!!!)

Re: Sort of a breastfeeding question but looking for lots of opinions

I was 180lbs when I gave birth to DS and breast fed him for a year and at my 1 yr appt I weighed 120lbs I was also only 21yrs old but I think breast feeding had alot to do with it. When I was 29 DD was born I wasnt able to breast feed her and I had a tough time losing weight.

Re: Sort of a breastfeeding question but looking for lots of opinions

I gained 50+ pounds with each of my pregnancies. I'm not a super active person -other than kid chasing and as much as I try to like exercise I don't. We take walks, we play outside, but jog? Not since high school gym class. And I like cookies. A lot.
But, in spite of all of these things I have lost the weight pretty well. I hold on to 7 -10 pounds until after I stop BF, but other than that it kind of just melts off. Right now I'm about 9 lbs more than I was when I got pregnant. I was a size 2/4 then, so I'm guessing I'll be back to that before too long.
I'm the odd one out in my family, though. My mom jokes that she's still trying to loose the weight she gained with me

It isn't instant, but yes. You can't be eating like you did while pregnant, though, and I think a lot of people do.
