Walmart has 18ct packs of washclothes in colors or white for only $4. There are 6 of us, so I have 2 packs (3 dozen) that stay nicely folded in a basket on the table (or more often not because my 15month old likes to dump the basket for me to re-fold).

I got my cloth napkins in various sales at Target so they were super cheap. It def. depend on the fabric how absorbent they are but we also always have dishtowels easily accessible in case of spills.

I made a ton with knit print and baby terry but plan on buying a few packages of baby washcloths to subsidize my stash as we just run out too quickly (and no time these days to sew for personal use).

We also have a drawer full of flats and another drawer full of preemie prefolds and microterry cloths for various other needs but sometimes double as napkins.
