Re: Broccoli Salad?

My cousin makes a wonderful broccoli salad with raisins.
I found it on AllRecipes (my fave recipe site). It is YUMMY!

INGREDIENTS
1 head fresh broccoli, cut into bite size pieces
1/2 cup raisins
1/4 cup red onion, chopped
2 tablespoons white sugar
3 tablespoons white wine vinegar
1 cup mayonnaise
1 cup sunflower seeds
10 slices bacon
DIRECTIONS
Place bacon in a large, deep skillet. Cook over medium high heat until evenly brown. Crumble and set aside.
In a salad bowl, toss together broccoli, raisins and red onions. In a separate bowl, whisk together the white sugar, vinegar and mayonnaise. Pour over broccoli mixture and toss to coat. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours.
Before serving, sprinkle with sunflower seeds and crumbled bacon. Toss and serve.

Re: Broccoli Salad?

Yummy yes... good for you no!

I use 1 cup mayo (salad dressing actually)
1/4 cup sugar
cut up broccoli spears
diced red onion
bacon bits (we use real bacon)
cheese

mix the sugar and mayo. mix the other ingredients... pour the sugar/mayo mixture over the broccoli mixture and mix. I let it sit a few minutes to combine good.

super easy and oh so good!

I also use this basic recipe but add some distilled white vinegar and sometimes some raisins. Yummy!

I don't like mayo either but you can't really taste it. We use best foods mayo and not the fake stuff and I found it actually is better even if you do taste it.

You don't really *taste* the mayo - it just sort of blends it all together. I'm not sure what you could use to substitute...but my daughter does NOT like mayo and she loves this salad.
