Unique kids activities? Add some to my list!

What are some fun and maybe unusual activities you do with your toddler/preschool aged kids. We are always looking for new ideas! Here are a few things we like to do-

We like to paint in the bathtub. We use home-made pudding paint since the baby likes to play too. When they are done I just wash them and the tub off. Two in one fun!

While I cook I sometimes let the kids make "soup" at the counter with me. I give them a bowl of water and a spoon and usually a few of the ingredients I am using. They add some people and animals to it and have a ton of fun. I only do this on days I am feeling brave! The mess can be awful.

The kids love when I fill up a big container with dry beans or rice and hide "treasures" in it for them to find. It might be paper clips, toys or maybe a few jelly beans!

We like to wet sidewalk chalk - it looks more like paint that way and it so fun to use!

Today we filled up the kiddie pool (it was 86 degrees here!) - it turned into a mud bath! The kids had so much fun filling it with dirt, leaves and other randomness. Then they swam in it- yea we are gross like that- LOL.

Any one else have some ideas to share?

The bath crayons are great. We have lots of fun with them. I have even used them to leave little messages for my husband when he was up.

I like your ideas!

We do scavenger hunts in the house.
I have tied ropes from one end of the room to the other by either tying one end to a chair or door knob and then I let the girls hang clothes up.
Playing supermarket in the house letting the kids buy stuff you already have in the house.
We also pick up treasures from outside like dandelions and sticks. My girls make stuff w/ them outside. Like a big wood pile or some flower thing.
My kids would love doing the mud bath. That sounds like great fun!

Re: Unique kids activities? Add some to my list!

Around here we paint on the windows and glass doors using just about anything washable (markers, paints, pudding, whipped cream, shaving cream). We also enjoy painting scenes on a large white sheet (I get them from goodwill cheap), and then doing shows in front of them.

Another huge hit is when we take some playdough that's just about to dry up, and mix it with water, grass, small bits of sticks, pine needles or whatever else we have around the ground and then they roll it out on the sidewalk into a flat slab and cut "bricks" out of it. Then we use the bricks to build stuff. When they dry up we can use them again and again until they get lost or tossed out. We do it several times a year when Playdough goes on sale I take the old stuff and make this, then give them new stuff.

Though the littlest one doesn't like playdough.

Use masking tape to create an indoor hopskotch on the floor.

Do "experiments"... check out an easy Science experiment book from the library.

Paint rocks & pinecones.

Do nature walks and glue your findings on to a paper or put them in a jar. (findings as in leaves, grass, etc...not bugs, lol!)

Paper mache and make bowls

Make mud pies

Catch bugs and put in containers then let loose later on in the day

Put up a huge piece of paper on a wall/fence and let them pudding paint or finger paint or draw on it. You can even tack up cut up grocery paper bags if you don't have one giant piece of paper.

Get a huge box (like appliance/fridge box) and cut out doors and windows and let the kids draw all over it. Put up fabric curtains and paste paper flowers and stuff on it. Then give them a snack and let them sit inside.

Hide and seek in the dark with flashlights.

Build a fort with tables, chairs, blankets, boxes.

Catch & release frogs, snakes and minnows! The kids love learning about other critters they can see up close.
Glycerine bubbles in a baby tub or a small kiddie pool outdoors. They can enclose themselves in a gigantic bubble.
