Anybody else not doing a "first outfit" and that type of stuff?

I know I am more of a minimalist mom but I don't care nor do I have time to figure out things like a special first outfit. If I was a baby, I would want to come home in my comfy sleeper and not some scratchy fussy outfit. I'd want to be swaddled tight and not be covered in satiny novelty blankets. I'd want people to stop taking pictures and leave me alone to snuggle with my mom and get some rest.

Our homecoming outfit will be an Under the Nile two-piece that was one of the few organic outfits we got new (aka not of eBay). It's comfy and cute. My partner really wants to have something special, but it's not some annoying scratchy outfit that will irritate him or make his homecoming uncomfortable.

I think you can make it special without making it a drag for baby and mom.

I am excited about picking out special clothes for my LO to come home in but I am not making it fussy. He or she will just wear comfy, cotton jersey onesies or sleepers (I did buy a dress if it's a girl but also very simple and comfy looking). They're still "coming home outfits" because I picked them out especially for the occasion. I agree with PP. It can be what you want.

Were not doing a 'special' outfit. Just a little gap sleeper with fold over hand cuffs (same one my other DD wore home ) We did buy a special coming home obv blanket. I'm hoping it will arrive before baby! It was custom dyed.

Re: Anybody else not doing a "first outfit" and that type of stuff?

I tried doing a cute little outfit for DD#1. She was 5lb 11oz when she was born, and I only had one preemie outfit that a friend had give to us as a gift. It was a long sleeve dress, but DD#1 was so tiny that the tights and shoes didn't fit. DD#2 actually came home in a preemie sleeper that had been DD#1's though it was almost too small. DD#3 came home in crocheted wool pants w/ a Granimals shirt from Wal-mart. This baby will be coming home in a mama made lap tee or kimono style tee with matching pants. So, something special, but still simple and comfy.

Re: Anybody else not doing a "first outfit" and that type of stuff?

We did a special outfit with my first who was born in a hospital. My last two babies have been born at home and unassisted so there was nobody to see a fancy outfit anyways. They just wore second-hand gender neutral stuff the first day or so.

With this one, it's first outfit will be a white cotton kimono t-shirt that I actually bought new (as opposed to Goodwill or FSOT), a GMD orange prefold with blue pins (blue was all I could find), and one of the 3 wool sleepsacks I bought. I can't imagine anything more squishy and comfy!

We'll have a homebirth, so no coming home outfit.
But maybe something really nice for his first outing? But that will be the doc's office at 1 week. Not so special.
But around 2 weeks of age someone will do a meet the baby party for us. I'll put on some nice clothes then. And since I don't know the gender of the baby it will give me time to find something nice.
