Re: Please pray!

I just saw this thread today.

I am so sorry that you are having to go through this. I said a prayer for your family. I pray your husband pulls through. I pray you get into the Kathy House. I pray that he comes around soon and realizes you are there and can say "I love you" to each other.

I pray that you have comfort and find peace no matter what the outcome.

Please update us when you can. I am praying for you mama. Big hugs.

God bless,
Christian wife to my hubby, mamma to three little men and a little lady!

Re: Please pray!

Well, I don't have much of an update. He is holding his own as far as the infection is concerned but he isn't rapidly getting better, which is expected, given the severity of his illness. He is still intubated and sedated. I met with his oncologist and the ICU team. The concern is that Dale is being treated aggressively only to turn around and continue to decline. THe oncologist feels that if he gets strong enough there are still some chemo options but most likely they will only buy him a few months. I feel that it should be my husband's decision. As long as Dale is still stable and fighting the infection I think he should keep being treated. If he pulls out of this infection and his full mental status returns, then he and I can discuss the options, wether he tries another chemo or we turn to hospice care. If he doesn't pull out of the infection or he doesn't regain his full mental capacities, then I will make the decision to discontinue care. This is so hard for me, especially with no support from my family or his. Only one daughter is involved in our lives and even she is withdrawing because she can't "handle it". His siblings in Minnesota aren't coming to visit because they all think he can't hear them. It shouldn't even matter! I am so angry and upset.

Today, the nurses turned off the sedation so I could sit with him and see how he did. It was encouraging to see that he did not get as agitated as he has done in the past for the nurses. Also he tried to shift his body into a more comfortable position and I asked him several times to try and open his eyes so he could look at me and three times he tried. He couldn't open them all the way but he tried. Also, when I layed my head on his chest he picked up his left arm and placed it on my back. When I told his doctor all this she said that was encouraging and that he was communicating with me in his own way.

I hope I am doing the right thing.
