Re: How 'bout some castor oil success stories to get me in the mood?
My DS is a castor oil success story
I put a tablespoon in a big McDonald's chocolate shake and drank about half the shake at 1am. I woke up at 5am in labor and he was born at 7:07. I am not sure that the castor oil did it, since it was such a tiny amount, or if I was just going to go into labor anyway. I never had the runs at all. I was 40+5, and he was my earliest baby (the others were 7 and 10 days postdate). Good luck

Re: How 'bout some castor oil success stories to get me in the mood?
I'm gonna do it tonight when DS goes to bed. The weekend got hectic and I've been just hoping I'd go into labor naturally, but it doesn't seem to be happening. My doctor induces at 41 weeks and I'm totally fine with that, so I'm doing it tonight so that if it doesn't work, I'll be done with its lovely effects by the time I have my 41 week appointment on Tuesday morning. I assume I'll be checking in to L&D Tuesday morning and hopefully having my baby sometime that day!
I need my attitude to be better about the CO, though. I fully expect just to get the poops and no cramps like last time. And that's fine! Thanks for all your replies! I'll update when I get a chance

I just read Ina May's guide to child birth book & she suggests 2 T of CO. She says you can put it into food & stuff to help with the taste. Have you tried inserting evening primrose oil? I would hesitate with the CO because of the diahrea, but you are right! It's better than a medical induction.

I tried Castor Oil with my last two when I was both dilated and effaced. It did cause contractions and a sore butt but no labor.

Re: How 'bout some castor oil success stories to get me in the mood?
I'll be trying CO in the morning, per the midwife's instructions, and I have to admit I'm slightly nervous about it. I'm just worried the LO isn't ready to come out yet (I'm 39w today) and I'll end up with a medical induction anyway. We're inducing because of high BP numbers (I've been triaged - don't have any signs of pre-eclampsia, just pregnancy induced hypertension), and this is pretty much my last chance to avoid the hospital.
The midwife said she rarely resorts to CO, but when she does it almost always works, so hopefully I stay in the trend.

Re: How 'bout some castor oil success stories to get me in the mood?
I have used castor oil twice. With my first I took it Saturday night. I was six days overdue. By the next morning I had lost my plug and had contractions Sunday night. My water broke early Monday morning and I had a baby by 6 am. I tried it with my youngest too. I took it on Saturday and it didn't do much (didn't even seem to work), but Sunday I had strong contractions and my baby was born early Monday at 4 days overdue.
It could be coincidence, but I would say it did something for me! |
