Nooooo way. I could maybe be convinced to try flats. But handwashing? Nope, can't do it, lol! I love my fluff....but not enough to wash by hand. :P

Please excuse typos - posting from my cell phone.

Re: Are you going to participate in the flats/handwashing challenge?

Yep!

I had to wash by hand when our washing machine broke which is actually how I discovered flats and ended up a regular on DS in the first place!

I came here looking for info on how to handwash and the rest is history.

I plan to wash every day so I think it is doable. I made the "camp style washer" that they link to on their site and Im excited to try that rather than the bathtub which is what I used when our washing machine broke.

Re: Are you going to participate in the flats/handwashing challenge?

I really want to participate, but DS will be in daycare during the day then. I don't want to ask my babysitter to use flats, I think it is a bit much for daycare. I would really like to build the camp washer. I think it would be a neat experience to handwash and use flats... so sad. I wish they would open up the challenge to moms that will use flats everywhere but daycare. I think this is a realistic challenge because daycares won't usually use flats and if a family is tight on cash it is still cheaper to buy 4-6 pockets to use for daycare and wash daily than to buy 4-6 disposables everyday. I know of moms that handwash pockets too.

Re: Are you going to participate in the flats/handwashing challenge?

I was considering it since we are switching to all flats and covers anyway, but I'm thinking I probably realistically won't be able to. I am really short on time thanks to an insanely busy schedule (plus 4 kids!) and I don't have a bathtub to wash in. Plus I'm not sure I really want to handwash toddler poop x 2 kids, especially since they both have PB poo most of the time and our toilets are super low flow. Ugh.

If I had real toilets to remove the poo like my mom has at her place and a bathtub to wash in? I'd totally be in. I still might try it for a day and see how it goes since I did just get a new drying rack. I really suck at handwashing though. Last time I tried that the covers had poop stains and smelled terrible after getting myself soaked with water and making my hands all dried out I think my older toddler must just have REALLY stinky poop.

Re: Are you going to participate in the flats/handwashing challenge?

Nope. The only flats I own I use for pocket stuffers and I am finally going to have a washer and dryer after 4 months of coin op so I will be so happy to do my diaper laundry again! My DH has been doing it since we have lived here.

Sounds neat! definitely thinking about it. It's only 1 week, she allows diaper liners, you don't have to pin or snappi. sounds totally do-able! i hand washed flats a few times during vacations and it's really not that hard. i found them easier than disposable inserts (which we also brought on vacation with us).

I hope to give it a try. Another reason is it would force me to use flats exclusively for a week which I have wanted to do anyway.
At nights we have been using flannel receiving blankets. WOuld they wash up okay or do I need large organic GMD flats
