Excessive drooling in my 13 month old

My DS is 13 months and has been heavily drooling since 3 months. He has 6 teeth: two at 10 months, four at 11 1/2 months.

This is what I mean by excessive drool:
He soaks shirts across each shoulder and as far as his belly button ALL day long, he constantly "spits" drool and leaves "slime trails" across the floor. He wakes in a large puddle and his hair is crusted from drool. His room smells of it and I open the window to air it out daily. Neither I, DH or even DS's day care provider has ever seen a wetter child. He is our second child and our first drooled, but not like this.

His dr. says he is otherwise very healthy. Any thoughts?

Loving mama to Miss M (3/07) and Little Man G (3/10).

Re: Excessive drooling in my 13 month old

This sounds like my DS. It's gross. We have had to change his shirt at least twice a day. I'm so sick of bibs! I keep waiting for him to figure out to swallow some of his spit. I'm really hoping it gets better soon. Actually, I have noticed a recent improvement but he just cut his two upper molars (he is 16 months). He still drools a ton, but it isn't quite as heavy. Oh, and we hardly have a single picture where he doesn't have a strand of drool from chin to shirt.

Hahaha! Thanks for posting this. My son is also a crazy drooler. You have to be careful not to slip on his drool puddles, there is so much liquid. He pulls bibs off, so occasionally I will put it under his shirt, or between his shirts.

My mom says that both my brothers were excessive droolers, but none of us girls were. One bro is an MD and the other is a dentist, so I'm not too worried Oh, and the crazy drooling stopped at 2 or 3, she can't really remember. They don't drool anymore!
