Re: Early 80s carseat pic
that was our car seat too!
I saw a woman from church with her grandchildren the other day. . . she said "oh you got a new carseat for your baby?" I said "yes, we needed a new one because the old one expired after DS#3 so it wasn't safe anymore." She said "Car seats expire? My grandaughter is using Tami's seat (Tami is 18)" I told her yes they do so I'm hoping she got rid of it. |

Re: Early 80s carseat pic
I don't have a picture or description or anything but my grandma said she had a carseat for my dad (born in '68). My stepmom (born '72) didn't have a carseat though.

Re: Early 80s carseat pic
That's really cute. Scary, but cute!! I'm pretty sure they had harnesses though. It looks like you guys just have the lap belts around you and the seat!!

Re: Early 80s carseat pic
I was born in 1974 - my mom says they took me home in a car bed - like the one in that picture. My mom talks about when I was little I could get out of my carseat myself so I know I did have one. My brother and sister are 3 and 5 years younger and their carseats looked like the OP picture. My brother's booster seat - my mom still has as well and uses it in the kitchen too. LOL I know a lot of people my age that didn't even wear seat belts - but I grew up in California and I don't remember ever not wearing one. Like it was the law there before other places.

Re: Early 80s carseat pic
I was born in 1975 and never had any kind of car seat. In fact, I remember riding standing up in the front seat of the car, in between my parents.
When I had my 1st DS, my dad thought it was soooo cruel to strap such a tiny baby in a car seat. I asked what they done with me. He said I rode in my Momma's arms. However, after thinking about it, he agreed that car seats are safer. |

Re: Early 80s carseat pic
Yeah, never had a carseat here (born in 82). I remember riding in my mom's lap and steering!

I had a carseat I had to ride in until I turned 4. I made a huge deal about it so my mom let me ride without it on the way home from my special birthday dinner. A drunk driver came around a curve in our lane and hit us nearly head on (a bit more toward the driver's side). I ended up with some bruising on my chest from the seatbelt, which I had tucked under my arm since there was no booster seat to hold me up in position. We were lucky. Very, very lucky!
Sent from my iPhone, so don't mind the random autocorrect mishaps!
