What temp. would you consider a fever?

The rule at school here is that a child can return to school 24 hrs. after they're are fever-free. But a "fever" is never really clarified. Anything above the child's normal temp.? 99's? Above the 100 degree range? This question never dawned on me until my daughter's fever broke but then she ran a temp. anywhere from normal to 99.4 the next day. So would you consider that a fever?

99.4 seems to be in the high range of normal to me. I don't "worry" until after 101.

At the preschool where I used to teach, 100 degrees or higher was considered a fever.

My ped doesn't consider anything beow 100.5 to be a fever, which kind of bugs me because, if DS is running in the 99s, that's high for him and indicates that *something* is wrong, even if it's not super serious.

It bugs me too! We tend to run on the low side when everything is normal, like high 97's to low 98's. So, while 99 isn't high, it is elevated for my kids. They definitely aren't really sick, but do have a bug or something. (Of course, it doesn't really matter since I don't call or take my kids in unless they run over 102.5 for several days. I don't give them anything either unless it hits around 103.)

As for the OP, I don't know. Good question though.

101 here, and I don't medicate unless it's over 102.5.

101* is what I have been told by our dr's and we don't give meds until it reaches 101.5-102*.
